About this deal

Benny Bates and his sister, Nell, were allegedly based on real children he encountered during his ministry in Liverpool. Then raising his voice to a loud pitch the shouted, “Mike, come down here: there’s a chap that ‘as five pun’ in his pocket; let’s collar him quick! This work was reproduced from the original artifact, and remains as true to the original work as possible. Eventually they are compelled to run away from home after one beating too many and are rescued by watchman friend Joe Ragg and the companionable Nanny (like Nana in Peter Pan but not a dog) who continue to keep a watchful eye over them as the roam the streets.

If my story] shall awaken any sympathy for the poor little waifs of our streets, I shall have my reward. Benny’s father’s drowning in the dock – gurgles and all – and the scene where Joe invites his docile fellow workers to hear him read the bible are similarly absurd. On the western side of Scotland Road, that is to say, between it and the Docks, there is a regular network of streets, inhabited mostly by the lowest class of the Liverpool poor. It became hugely successful, was translated into many languages, [3] and sold over a million copies in the author's lifetime. It sounds like some sort of terrible Dickensian street urchin euthanasia where the kids have been brain washed into wanting to go to heaven and just sort of pine away.

His local knowledge also emerges in the book's vivid descriptions of Victorian Liverpool, and its careful attempts to reproduce the Scouse dialect. Benny has saved his 'angel's' life; now she reveals that she and her father have long known that he was innocent of the theft. And a second time the affrighted agent fled, and gave up the situation at once, vowing he would never enter any one of those streets again while he lived. Therefore, you will see the original copyright references, library stamps (as most of these works have been housed in our most important libraries around the world), and other notations in the work.

Gilt decorated blue cloth with a black and white illustrated frontis and black and white illustrations throughout.Despite the obvious drawbacks - melodramatic story line, a surfeit of religious instruction, the suffering of the (admittedly likeable) hero turned up to the nth degree, tear-jerking scenes always only a page away - this Victorian novel may present to the sophisticated reader of the 21st century, I found it to be sincere and affecting. The language, vocabulary and grammar misuse put me occasionally is a state of apoplexy and nearly to tears.
