Producing WhiskyCast has given me the opportunity to taste some really amazing whiskies, and I’m pleased to share my tasting notes with you here. With a small amount of inhabitants on the island the distillery is very much at the heart of the community.

For example, part of the distillery’s Travel Exclusives, The Isle of Jura The Road is available pretty much anywhere. Having tasted far too little at a tasting, my first impression was of a velvety, smooth whisky, which transfered effortlessly from tongue to throat leaving behind a notion of bagpipes and castanets. The Road is firstly matured in American oak casks, and is then moved over to casks that previously held 20 year old Pedro Ximenez sherry. The nose has notes of fig cookies, heather, dried flowers, lemon zest, vanilla, and a slight hint of brininess. Nose: Sharp orange peels, dark berries, brown sugar, light earthiness and a trip in the forest in the Autumn, peat.

Being from The Netherlands, he feels a particular sense of pride when it comes to genever, but really anything that has seen the inside of a still is of interest. Another tasty looking Jura Travel Retail release, presumably not named after the famously dystopian book and film. This is part of Jura’s travel retail lineup, and is finished in European Oak casks that originally held Pedro Ximenez Sherry for 20 years. The Road's unique flavour profile comes from the expert blending of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks, resulting in a smooth and complex whisky that is perfect for both novice and experienced drinkers alike. We have an extensive selection of fine and rare single malts from Scotland’s most respected distilleries.Jura Tastival 2017 is the first Limited Edition release to be overseen by new Jura Distillery Manager, Graham Log. I do believe the distillery has become somewhat of an undeserved black sheep among online whisky reviewers.
