About this deal

While this may not be confusing to most people who have read this, I could totally imagine someone getting their hopes up for a different shade of green stem in these switches after having misread this chart. I am definitely keeping these on my Kona as my daily driver (and if you all like this post maybe I'll make another about my long term impression of the switch after I've had more time with it). Looking first to the to the top housings of the switch, I want to make a note here that it already appears that the molds and design features of these top housings are markedly different from that of the only other Box style switch which I’ve reviewed prior in depth in my From The Vault: Novelias Switch Review.

On the left-hand side there is a single number mold marking facing inwards and on the right-hand side there is a number and letter code facing externally, assumedly used in marking molds or machines used to make the bottom housings. With even these slightly sharper variants having their own range in sharpness as well, it does point to perhaps some systemic manufacturing issues leading to a pretty wide degree of variability in the Mute Box Jade switches. Any K series (Gateron Mechanical Hot-Swappable or Keychron Mechanical Hot-Swappable versions only), K Pro series (Normal-profile versions only), C and C Pro series (Hot-Swappable versions only), V series, Q series and Q Pro series Keychron keyboards. I was quite afraid going from the BOX Navy to the BOX Jade thinking it wouldn’t be as sharply tactile, but that was all for nought as the Jades feature just as sharp of a tactile event as the BOX Navy. I received both BOX Jades and Navies so naturally the first thing that I did was open up the bags and test them out individually, comparing them to their counterparts the BOX White and Pale Blues.Further details regarding the dimensions, exact location, or manufacturing implementation method are otherwise unknown to me and/or not belayed clearly in the spec sheet of these switches.

Regarding the stem wobble of these two switches, the Box Mute Jades feel slightly less wobbly in both directions as compared to the original Box Jade switches, which may be likely due to simple mold and manufacturing improvements over the previous years since the initial release of the Jades.Relative to other iterations of Box switches both new and old alike, it’s also worth noting that this region is strangely completely covered whereas some older generations had intentional holes in bottom of the central pole region. The box around the stem is not just for aesthetics either, it's for dust protection as well as keycap stability.

Zeal and crew kicked off the custom switch scene many years ago with their iconic Zealios switches and the story of switches today couldn’t be told without them. I went from around 80 wpm to 45 just getting used to them and now feel more comfortable and am probably sitting around 60 (best guess). Keeping in mind that I hardly, if ever, get around to opening and inspecting Box style switches, all of the traditional components of the stem that I am aware of are present. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. The Box Jade and Box Navy, which requires over 50 gf operating force, brings intense and sturdy typing feel and the Box Cream, with its ultra-smooth travel combined with the box design , makes it a solid choice among linear fans who are looking for a seamless typing experience. There's plenty of room inside for good airflow around components therefore I haven't felt the need to add to the two included case fans as the case design allows for good passive airflow.
