Her television work includes My Fragile Heart, Murder, Sex Traffic, Tsunami – The Aftermath, White Girl, Royal Wedding, Birdsong, The Hour, River and The Split. An elderly man dances with the memory of his young wife; a young man makes love to the woman his new wife will eventually become. An example of this was how as a younger couple, they seemed to discuss everything; children, jobs, ambitions, friends, however as they grew older the silences between conversations seemed to become longer, and conversational topics seemed to run dry. That sometimes bumpy relationship is drawing to a close as Maggie’s increasing and terminal frailty forces the couple into making some drastic preparations. The play revolves around a couple, William and Margaret/Billy and Maggie, who are depicted at two key stages in their lives.

uk to discuss your individual requirements, and you'll hopefully see our new site and products soon! is a question we all ask ourselves as we grow older, and while this show may be shamelessly emotionally manipulative with its musical underscoring and videos of rising flocks of starlings, the manipulation of time that is most heart-stoppingly effective. The production stayed with me for a long time after I had seen it, as for me it illustrated the fragility of life and relationships, and the naturalistic, raw emotional response to separation through death. This costume coordination allowed for Bill to recognise that at times he saw the younger Margaret buried beneath Maggie’s ageing appearance and deteriorating health; the audience see this when the older Bill dances with the memory of his young wife. The performance takes place in the kitchen and bedroom of Bill and Maggie’s house, which is stalked by the ghosts of their younger selves. If this sounds tricksy (add in powerful video backdrops and an intensely moving underscore), it isn’t – all is perfectly pitched and done with beautifully judged finesse.

Leanne Rowe and Edward Bennett too are perfectly cast as the young couple whose dreams did not stand that cruellest of tests, the test of time.It had been mentioned earlier that taking too many of these blue pills would consequently end her life, and so having this repetition each time she took one built the tension leading up to her death. One aspect of the direction which I found particularly thoughtful was the way that scenes which clearly showed Maggie and Margaret as being the same character, as an obvious choice would’ve been to have them speak some of the same lines or do some of the same actions- however this never happened. This evoked sympathy from the audience for Maggie, as the shoes were representative of her youth; being unable to walk in them seemed like being unable to relive her youth despite her best efforts and clear sense of nostalgia. However, as Margaret/Maggie prepares to take her own life and end her suffering, Billy is at her side.

Maggie’s death was choreographed very simply, and yet managed to create an extremely sorrowful atmosphere. This created the impression of the old couple’s love and passion having burned out, whilst the young couple’s relationship appeared vibrant and optimistic for the future. Wheelchair spaces and their adjacent seats for accompanying guests are not available to book online. The performance was conducted in the visceral, physical theatre style which Frantic Assembly is so well accredited for.The set was simplistic; only featuring basic statement furnishings of the house (such as the fridge, table, bed and wardrobe).
