About this deal

The hardest thing about the Cloudlifter is deciding on your cable length/configuration to figure out where to put the device. The combination of the two gave me more than ample gain and a clear, clean signal with no unwanted artifacts. Cons: Maybe expensive given the limited features, but I guess you pay for quality Regardless would purchase again for definite. I just purchased my second CL-2 and I’d purchase a third but, sorry Stephen, a friend has one and allows me to borrow it. The acid test for hearing differences between audio tracks is to invert one of the two and play them back together, in mono.

You can then choose which finance term you'd like to apply for, and change your deposit if you wish. Premium electronics - the Cloudlifter`s patented discrete JFET circuitry preserves the source`s natural sound while keeping the direct audio path clear of transformers, capacitors, and resistors. Then on YouTube, you see "Cloudlifter" that boosts the signal of your mic, in which you need "phantom" power.Because the phantom power will not pass through the CL-1 (avoiding any potential damage to vintage ribbon mics, for instance), it can only be used with microphones that do not require phantom power, so using the CL-1 to get extra gain out of a phantom-powered condenser mic is not possible without an external phantom power supply between the Cloudlifter and the mic. Cloud Microphones designed their Cloudlifter series around direct-coupled, Class A discrete JFET circuitry, engineered to preserve the natural sound of your mics. I made sure that New MIDI Track was selected as well as Session Start, so that the MIDI track would line up perfectly with the original audio track. Despite AKG’s claims that it was “designed in Austria,” it was actually designed in Germany, by Neumann in about 1986. Great product I also use this in conjunction on my mixer as a fail safe when I use phantom power with my condenser mics so I don't have to remove all my dynamic mics when powering on +48v since my phantom power once enabled powers every XLR input on my board.

In actual practice, you wouldn’t start with MIDI-generated audio anyway, you’d start with a snare track you wanted to clean up, or a kick drum track where you liked the feel but didn’t particularly like the sound. In short, the Cloud Microphones CL-1 Cloudlifter provides gain for your dynamic or ribbon mic without forcing you to throw out your USB interface—it boosts the microphone’s signal before it gets to the interface.Considering the megawatt electromagnetic assault coming from across the street the CL-2 performs very well indeed. However, you may not even want to upgrade if you aren’t trying to coordinate an entire multi-speaker podcast—this unit works really well on its own.

So, no matter how dramatic of an impact this transparent technology may have on your recordings, you can be sure you're really just hearing your mic at its best. Phantom powered - turns phantom power into gain and clarity without passing it through to your delicate ribbon mic. I bough my C-1 to use with my SM7b after reading your review, and that pair has been in my vocal chain for the eight or nine songs I’ve written and recorded over the past 8 or so months. But the C400’s pad is cutting 20dB of gain, which means the Cloudlifter’s additional 20-25dB is all but wiped out.Designed for all passive microphones – including ribbons- the CL-1 safely uses any standard phantom powered microphone input device to provide up to +25db of ultra- clean, transparent gain. It’s been a total game-changer on a nearly-forgotten ’57 that actually turned out to be a very decent VO mic after all. I have a Focusrite Solo and an Sm7B and it's pretty quiet right now and tough to work with in my DAW but not impossible. With a Cloudlifter in your rig, you need not hesitate to take full advantage of your favorite ribbon mics and other go-to low-output dynamic mics.
