About this deal

Somebody in the comments of that page above mentioned looking up the hardware id of the EasyCAP device. I found out from a couple of sites that talk about the EasyCAP that the EasyCAP can come with any one of about 4 different chips. SE software and I was asked to enter the Product Key which was printed on the CD that came with the EasyCap. I went to the "Option" menu to see if I could select the EasyCAP, and unlike when I connected the EasyCAP to my father's laptop with the included USB cable, I was able to select the EasyCAP as an input device from the "Option" settings menu.

That means install XP with no service Pack, then install Service Pack 1 (after uninstalling the 'original' USB device drivers so that the new ones install by SP1 take their place). The attached screen shots, before/after images, photos and graphics are created/posted for the benefit of site members. The VLC makers say that recording like this takes the raw stream from the recorded device 'as-is' and that there is nothing to do about it. The first result titled "EasyCAP DC60 sm-usb 007 - How To - Win7 Win10 64bit Drivers and Heat" looked like it had the information I was looking for. When I opened up the case of my EasyCAP (you can just pry it open) I noticed that the circuit board said V 2.Given that VCR composite output is generally created by adding the Y and C signals together near the output point, the degraded Y/C capture is likely due to issues within the capture device.

The rational as best I can tell is 12 bit makes a lot of heat, that 8 bit or lower levels of ADC do not. SE" software was the culprit and I checked to see if I could use the EasyCAP as a capture source in VLC media player. With the cabling correctly plugged, VLC (available from the Software Centre) can be used to capture sound and image. The impedance between the hot pins (3 and 4) will be different, what you measure will depend on the circuit and its state but I would expect it to look like 150 ohms to a video signal.
