While The End of Her is only the second book by Shari Lapena that I’ve read, it certainly will not be my last. She relaxes for a moment, letting her exhausted body sink into the cushions, her head heavy against the pillows. Her eyes are stinging and tearing up, and she leans back against the counter, shaking now that the danger is past. Well, this novel has that vibe of a crazy woman from a man’s past who wreaked havoc on that man’s marriage.

Hanna Bright puts little Teddy in his baby swing on the front porch and sits down to read her novel. The end of the film is supposed to indicate that Theodore has overcome the crippling insecurities that were stimulated by the failure of his relationship with Catherine. The plot is moved along by Erica, a woman who Patrick had an affair with at the time of his first wife’s death, that may or may not know more details about this death and Patrick whose arrival in town brings all of this to light. Patrick's job is suffering because of his sleep deprivation and Stephanie doesn't know how much longer she can go, never getting enough rest. It took me a while to warm up to Stephanie cause at the beginning she came up a little bit whiny (I think I’ve never heard the word collic more times in my life!What makes this story special is that there are three grifts occurring simultaneously, each equally frustrating and appalling. She legit just puts in the obituary of the other main character who was another nightmare of a character that everyone wanted her dead. Instead of soothing music, low lighting and controlled breathing, it was all beeping machines, dropping heart rates, swarming medical staff, and being wheeled hurriedly into the operating room.

And that wouldn’t be good – the twins only go down for about half an hour in the morning, and the difficulty of rousing herself after such a short time won’t be worth it. This compelling and realistic modern take on the country-house mystery will gain new fans for the author and is definitely one to hand to devotees of Agatha Christie (and her modern interpreter, Sophie Hannah). Patrick as well was a mystery; I found myself constantly unsure if Stephanie should trust him or not. A novel of domestic suspense with shifting POVs, The End of Her will have you questioning who to believe right up until the end.

And her quote "Now we know how" when they were talking about love suggests that he realizes that Amy is his "her.
