About this deal

Bonnie Montgomery (as her case-cracking alter-ego Montgomery Bonbon) has been invited to Adderstone Manor by Fergus Crok.

There are also numerous illustrations throughout, from the map and cast of characters at the beginning to the highly detailed and enormously fun full and half pages scattered throughout. They’re so compelling and they really have you rooting for the main character and Bonnie was definitely one you could get behind. You guys are such a force for good and I am a passionate supporter of Indie booksellers, so I'm so happy this worked out well (I'd love to know how many books were sold if you have it to hand - it felt like quite a lot! Murder at the Museum is a thoroughly enjoyable start to what I hope will be a long series featuring the eccentric detective and adults who remain clueless that a little girl with a false moustache and raincoat has a better success rate at solving crime than the local constabulary.

Ten-Year-old Bonnie Montgomery believes she is the world’s greatest detective although no one knows about her detective skill except her Grampa as she goes under the disguise of Montgomery Bonbon a distinguished gentleman with a French accent, fine clothes, and a moustache. This is the second children's book from Beckett-King, following on from Murder at the Museum, and I loved it too. I didn't realise until I was writing this review that the author is the guy I've seen on Mock the Week! Claire Powell’s illustrations bring so much personality to the characters and elevate Montgomery Bonbon from a brilliant mystery to an iconic character. I really loved this as it was the perfect follow on from Alasdair Beckett-King's first Montgomery Bonbon novel. This unlikely crime-fighting duo are the stars of Montgomery Bonbon: Murder at the Museum – the first in a delightful new middle grade mystery series.

Had I read this as a kid, I may not have understood all the humorous play with words and meaning, but I enjoyed it all the more as an adult. It also has a lot of heart, largely owing to Grandpa, but also because Bonnie is a really likeable main character - quite often young detectives tend to be irritating and entitled but Bonnie wasn't at all. So this is very much like Nancy Drew, except with a grandfather as a side kick and a little bit of Night at the Museum thrown in. A great new detective has been born - welcome Bonnie Montgomery […] A hilarious story with plenty for the adults reading as well […] fast paced and will keep the reader entertained throughout.Hornville's Museum of Natural History is no ordinary museum and Bonnie is super excited to visit the museum because of its bizarre collection.
