About this deal

Beautifully written, fast-paced, funny and full of interesting characters that make you want to read on at the end of every chapter. Everyday that mechanical elephant walks about the park trumpeting and spraying the passers by with his trunk. While London prepares for Queen Victoria’s Jubilee, the city gets shaken up by the break-out of England’s most wanted criminal, the famous escapologist Jack Door. The book is packed with mystery, mayhem, and mechanicals, where young heroes run through the vivid streets of Victorian London to catch a notorious criminal. When infamous escapologist Jack Door breaks out from Pentonville Prison, he sets out for the town of Brackenbridge, determined to find his missing treasure - the Moonlocket.

Determined to solve the mystery, Lily, Robert and Malkin the mechanical fox, set out for London on an adventure full of danger, daring, family secrets and long-buried treasure. Peter grew up in London in a rambling Victorian house with 3 cats, 2 dogs, 1 little sister, an antique dealer dad and an artist mum. There is an evidence base which shows a strong correlation between literacy levels and health outcomes. I still found that Lily annoyed me a little at times, but in the end, she is a child, and children do have a way of believing that they know best and they NEED to do things to help the situations that arise. When Robert and Lily have a mysterious run-in with Jack, they unlock secrets to Robert’s past that send them on a dangerous mission to reclaim the Blood Moon Diamond before Jack. This time the focus is more on Robert, who finds a mysterious moonlocket and has to find out what the link is with his mother and the rest of his family.

This time around the author wastes no time in plunging into the adventure- right from Jack's escape to Lily and Robert stumbling across the Moonlocket, things are kept exciting and I was instantly pulled into the story. When Professor Hartman receives a letter from Queen Victoria asking him to repair her mechanical elephant he sets off for London, leaving the children in the care of the mechanicals, Miss Tock, Mr Wingnut and Lily’s loyal friend Malkin, a mechanical fox. as they race around London trying to solve a mystery involving the criminal mastermind Jack of Diamonds and a family heirloom. I thought it was absolutely fantastic to have the spotlight on Robert, who we first meet in Cogheart, and who helps Lily on her fantastic adventure, it was lovely to get to see a different side of him and have him be less of a supporting character and be more in the forefront.Sure enough, a scary night-time encounter with Jack Door soon follows and Robert discovers the eponymous Moonlocket. And yes I am sure there are kids that can deal with that but the target group isn’t just for those kids. Jack Door, escapologist extraordinaire, pulls off his greatest feat to date – escaping from Pentonville Prison – with only one aim, to recover the mysterious Moonlocket.
