About this deal

Her main character clearly wants what she can't have and her journey to claim it is fraught with problems for her to overcome, until ultimately, she discovers that what she needs is not what she thought that she wanted.

However, one day, she gets too carried away while digging and ends up triggering a collapse in the mines, resulting in some of the child labourers, including her best friend Faisal, being declared dead. I did guess something that was happening a couple of pages before it did, but it was still interesting to read and I found myself really enjoying what Nura later finds out about certain jinn and humans in the jinn world. Be sure to check out this book for a determined protagonist, her soft boy companion, their adventure into a jinn world and a glimpse into workings of the real world! The growth that Nura goes through is written beautifully and you can see a clear progression of her character from start to finish.Nura and her friend Faisal put up with the physical danger and exhaustion of the mica mine as their brothers and sisters need what they can provide to avoid going hungry. Thank you NetGalley and Little, Brown Books for Young Readers for presenting me with an ARC of this book in exchange of a honest review. This hilarious sci-fi adventure highlights the importance of friendship and having the courage to face your fears. Even when Nura winds up in another realm, the beauty of the descriptions remains the equally imaginative. It pits ignorance and education against greed for money and finer things in a world where exploiters reign.

But unlike some of the kids, Nura is very determined and loves to try to mine as much as possible and outdo the other children in how much she can collect. And later on, I appreciated how she absorbed the lessons from different encounters, she always has her family as her priority. It’s not often I see my religion or culture celebrated in a such a beautiful way so I recommend this to everyone. This book is a perfect remedy for anyone who is suffering from Studio Ghibli withdrawal and needs to be immersed in a spectacularly detail-rich world immediately. Some day she’s going to find the Demon’s Tongue, a legendary treasure buried deep in the mines, and she’ll never have to worry about money again.spunky, not quite sure how to describe it, it's still a very solid debut and I'm excited to read more from this author. The result is an adventure that is dangerously beautiful and will make sure readers are both enchanted and excited for every page turn.
