About this deal

It's definitely retro, kind of soapy and mossy, but not cheap smelling -- it's actually very put together. You can smell easily what this has in common with two of his other most famous chypres from this line also designed by the legendary Chant: the original Aramis by Aramis, and the lovely rose-leather chypre Amaris 900. Devin opens with a huge blast of aldehydes - most commonly paired with floral notes, but here used to lend sparkle to a fresh, herbal accord of bitter galbanum and artemisia.

Smells of animal notes but in a good way, like your own skin with a perfumed leather like gloves old fashioned 18th century riding gloves made of real horse leather. Devin leans more towards the masculine side, but there is a slight “feminine” element lurking there. com perfumes magazine - All Rights Reserved - do not copy anything without prior written permission.I love colognes from this era 70's because they remind me of my father and his friends with their traditional smoky tobacco or green woods kind of smell. The carnation, cinnamon, labdanum, and amber add a smooth sweetness to it that prevents it from being dirty. The magic of this scent is when it settles you have a green plant like aromas with dry cedar that mixes in with the florals.

There is the fresh and sharp smell of wet leaves, and the beautiful smell of carnation, jasmine, who knows what else. It has strong and very distinctive leather and carnation notes and that's pretty much all I get out of it. At this point the floral notes are stronger than the green/pine notes, and the dry leather note is still hanging on in the background. Please read the full reviews and consider your own needs and preferences before making a purchasing decision. A piney male chypre that does a fougere fake-out at the top and slides into a whirlwind of crisp, tart greenery and aldehydes with the piney-ness always there. Opens up with an instant surprising, almost "blast in your face" note of what is in my opinion beautifully sweetened "Khaki Bos", a weed in South Africa. buuut )I wrestled with whether to take him home or Paris Hilton instead in all her sweet mangoey goodness.

That being said, with Aramis Devin I can definitely detect very distinct phases in the cologne as it evolves on my skin. At first I much preferred Devin to Polo Green, but after wearing it almost daily for a few months, I'm not so sure.Biggest surprise was probably one evening while wearing it, suddenly my girfriend mentioned that she "really liked the way I smell", which is NOT typical for colognes from that era. The herbal freshness remains for some time (which is good) then goes to the deeper outdoorsy scent (which is really good).

The pine note is the real stand-out for me: it is not a hackneyed Isobornyl Acetate heavy accord but rather a more dynamic pine of needles, resins, sap, bark, wood. Drydown is its best side, though, and I should add that Devin, when reactivated by a little sweat/activity hours after application, has a lovely musky closeness. It gives a dull opacity that constrains Aliage’s defining characteristic, which is an expansiveness, a clarity. Devin has more of a kind of fresh, green smell to my nose and has a whole bunch of meadowy notes judiciously included for good measure. If you have graduated from simpler and hopelessly accessible scents and want to explore something simultaneously thought-provoking and a source of primal pleasure, then Devin is a logical progression in your fragrance journey.

This gives modern day Devin, a far cry from the Dude of the late 1970s that he once was, a cheap feel and some would say, diminishes the legacy of a classic Aramis creation. I will remember this fondly for its bracing aroma--but not quite convincing enough to make it a more regular habit. This has since been removed from the labeling of newer formulations, but the fragrance remains primarily intact. Yet JHL, with its blowsy, floral side, makes a much more interesting perfume to my nose than Cinnabar on which it’s based. I am aware that today reformulation is weaker then original one, but there is always vintage edition to be found.
