About this deal

You may be right, but let me confirm, I read it on the web today, but right now I'm watching Sabalenka - Gauff. Original copies sold in the US have a shrinkwrap seam along the center of the top, bottom and mouth sides of the outer box.

In the last few years, I've been listening to a lot more pre-stereo recordings on LP and on 78 disks.Accordingly, you don't even really 'choose' to listen to music in stereo; often, it's the only option. The Revolver to white album series of records have the "tubey" cool shimmer of the originals which I lack on the 2014 lp's. The box contains a new two-disc compilation album titled Mono Masters, which compiles all the mono mixes of singles, B-sides and EP tracks that did not originally appear on any of the UK albums or Magical Mystery Tour. I was 11 years old in 1967, so most of my most intense listening (teenage and college years) was in stereo. It's also important to note that the stereo versions improved significantly with time, as the studio moved from a 4-track tape machine to 8-track, etc.

From what I’ve read, they used the original master tapes to make it, so it’s not just a repressing of the old mono releases. Unsurprisingly, this is because stereo is a really good audio format, and we know how to engineer in stereo really well by now. John Lennon did not like the stereo mix of his song " Revolution" on the 1967-1970 compilation album.A mono version of the Yellow Submarine album was released in the UK, but it was simply a fold-down (two stereo channels combined into one channel) from the stereo mix, not a unique and separate mono mix. Thus, the songs that were originally released on stereo singles in the UK are omitted on this release. Here, the added auditory information of stereo actually does make for a richer, more detailed listen. Some old 'stereo' recordings are just plain awful with instruments 'locked' to one channel or another. I have lately been listening to the audiobook of Mark Lewisohn's wonderful "The Beatles: All These Years – Volume 1 Tune In" (weird title).
