The Berezan' Runestone, discovered in 1905 in Ukraine, was made by a Varangian ( Viking) trader named Grani in memory of his business partner Karl. All the Gotlandic names are vividly described in NASA's JPL Small-Body Database in connection to each asteroid. Saffranspannkaka’ (saffron pancake, based on rice) served with whipped cream and jam made from dewberry – a blackberry relative also known as 'salmbär' – is a must-try Gotlandic classic. Early on, Gotland became a commercial center, with the town of Visby the most important Hanseatic city in the Baltic Sea.

Gottland is a cross-genre film based on selected parts of the international bestseller Gottland (European book of the year 2009) by Mariusz Szczygiel.Not because he’s washing windows, but because he’s living a life he would never have touched if he were only an artist. The surface is a plateau whose highest elevation is 83 m, and the island is made up primarily of Silurian limestones. A wide range of participating restaurants offers the opportunity to try truffles cooked in a variety of ways – from casual affairs to fine dining options. Gotlands Bryggeri is a well-established brewery offering up a long list of beer varieties across the island’s bars and restaurants. Reef growth started in the Llandovery Epoch, when the sea was 50 to 100 m (160 to 330 ft), and reefs continued to dominate the sedimentary record.

Gottland is a fascinating portrait of a people whose silence seems to speak louder than any words could, and a country that partially lives in the shadow of a long-gone monument that still seems to rise far into the sky.As of 2016, approximately 23,600 people (about 40% of residents) lived in Visby, which is the seat of the municipality and the capital of the county.
