About this deal

The notes, cross-references and book introductions of the JB and NJB are replaced in the RNJB by new materials which reflect the fruit of the most up-to-date and ecumenical scholarship. The Bible simply stops at the end of the book of Revelation, with a couple of extra blank pages which I would use for notes. Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts, Romans, 1 Corinthians, 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 Thessalonians, 2 Thessalonians, 1 Timothy, 2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon, Hebrews, James, 1 Peter, 2 Peter, 1 John, 2 John, 3 John, Jude, Revelation. This Reader’s Edition presents The New Jerusalem Bible in an easily accessible and manageable form suitable for everyone.

This new translation – known as the New Jerusalem Bible – was freshly translated from the original languages and not tied to any French translation (except indirectly, because it maintained many of the stylistic and interpretive choices of the French Jerusalem Bible). So convenient specially when you prefer to work your ears rather than your eyes to renew your faith by hearing. I like the Jerusalem Bible translation, but this edition is honestly more of Bible for home study, for those who want to read and use a Catholic translation with a separate commentary.g. Dominican scholar monks at the Ecole biblique et archéologique française de Jérusalem, with the intention of keeping the original text meaning intact. On his contribution to the Jerusalem Bible, Tolkien wrote, "Naming me among the 'principal collaborators' was an undeserved courtesy on the part of the editor of the Jerusalem Bible.

For a small number of Old Testament books, the first draft of the English translation was made directly from the French, and then the General Editor (Fr Alexander Jones) produced a revised draft by comparing this word-for-word with the Hebrew or Aramaic texts. Source: The Very Reverend Dom (Joseph) Henry Wansbrough, OSB, MA (Oxon), STL (Fribourg), LSS (Rome), a monk of Ampleforth Abbey and a biblical scholar. You may have heard and read about the New Revised Standard Version (Catholic edition), the New American Bible Revised Edition, the Douay-Rheims Bible (that I reviewed last month)… but today, I am reviewing a Bible containing a beautiful Catholic translation, the Jerusalem translation. Speaking about the dust jacket, I would like to note how the publishers mentioned that the Bible is “a portable 5 1/2” x 8 1/4” trim size”.
