Only giving 3 stars as it didn't really stick out to me, and probably wouldn't recommend it for that simple fact. I picked this one up for the Black Swan vibes and my lifelong interest in anything dance related but I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect beyond that.Everyone is judging you, no one thinks you are good enough and you run yourself ragged trying to be the best. Nevertheless, I still had a hard time getting into the main story and connecting with any of the characters, which is why I decided to give a flat, uneventful, solid three stars. If you love competition, thrillers and art (especially ballet) and of course forbidden love and bad choices, First Position is for you! two dancers who meet and have a shared trauma, but the flipping backwards and forwards, the events told from the two characters point of view just didn't really seem necessary, and I wanted to finish the book rather than get to the end of a story. and voyeurism of this kind is a BIT more R rated than the vision I had of toe shoes and tutus (not to mention one that was also supposed to be peppered with thrills! If you're a fan of intense, steamy romances with a touch of darkness and intrigue, this book is an absolute must-read. I'd say more, but let's face it-- you were either in or out from the "Center Stage, but with more smut" line.in real life, it couldn’t be further from the truth - and while I realize that this is a work of fiction, it still infuriates me to see this stigma of ballet dancers out there in the world.
