Designed to result in the best coffee possible, the two-layered mesh filter lets more coffee oils through, creating a full-bodied beverage with no grittiness or sediment at the bottom of the cup. But the Barisieur Coffee Alarm Clock lures you into consciousness with the aroma of fresh coffee – or tea, if you prefer. The coffee alarm clock was initially created by Joshua Renouf, a Product Design Graduate from Nottingham Trent University, for his final project. The laboratory-like glass portion looks rather complicated, but the Barisieur was very simple to set up and use.

Designed to start brewing at a specific time (that you manually set), the device is built with a milk vessel, walnut-wood tray, borosilicate glass mug and stainless-steel brew filter.

The Barisieur brewing system is made from hand-blown borosilicate glass by master craftsmen - ensuring perfect flavour to your brew. The brewing process isn’t exactly quiet, but was quite satisfying to listen to while I snoozed, and watching the hot water shoot through the glass piping system was surprisingly exciting (given that it was at 6am). That was the way it was looking until Joshua arranged a meeting with Richard Branson and the success of the meeting propelled the project over the Kickstarter line. The Barisieur Coffee Alarm Clock has become one of the world’s most-sought after home accessories because it’s a premium kind of alarm clock that eases you into the morning with the soothing sounds of bubbling water alongside the freshly smelling coffee or loose tea. Tip: pour water into the water tank of your coffee machine first, then add the descaler (unless it's specified otherwise in the manual of your coffee machine).

The device was the perfect size for my bedside table, and the black, dark brown, stainless steel and glass design made sure it blended in with my other furniture nicely.
