You’d need a decent desk lamp when working late at night on this machine (you’d expect to use a lamp late in the evenings with any machine, but I have definitely used machines with brighter lights built in).

The machine has a maximum sewing speed of 750 stitches per minute, making it efficient and time-saving. The use of metal bobbins will affect stitch quality and in some cases could damage the machine and invalidate the warranty.Another challenge with this machine is that you have almost no control over the stitch length, width, and needle position. You’ll need to experiment with the tension for thin jersey, silk, and chiffon, but you can create (mostly) smooth and flat seams. For these reasons I would give this machine the lowest score for accessibility as you may need to ask someone for help to use a few of the functions.

It pulls the fabric into a tunnel with the standard tension of 4, so more experimenting is needed with that.However, Brother do include an instructional DVD, so there are plenty of ways to learn about the machine if you struggle with the fold-out manual.
