About this deal

However, Conn Iggulden begins “Trinity” with a conflict between the Percys and the Nevilles, which is known as the Battle of Heworth Moor.

It's up to his son to take the throne, but frail in body and mind, he is dependent on his supporters to run his kingdom. It's clear how Conn Iggulden has become one of our best-selling historical fiction authors - and I'm looking forward to the next in the series, which he says he is planned as a trilogy but will probably end up as a four or five parter. Despite a recent TV series, the Wars of the Roses has been generally overlooked, the most anyone knows about this period of history is via Shakespeare and his interpretation of a hunchback Richard III and the death of the Princes in the Tower. There were quite a few scenes where the amount of gruesome details made me cringe, but I wanted to read more. With the new television series “The White Queen” (based on Philippa Gregory’s novel), I feel that this period within history is extremely popular at the moment with a great buzz surrounding Henry VI’s and Edward III reign. His previous two series, on Julius Caesar and on the Mongol Khans of Central Asia, describe the founding of the greatest empires of their day and were number one bestsellers. Cade is known to Thomas from his time in the army and Thomas is coopted into helping Cade turn his rabble into an actual fighting force. The brilliant retelling of the Wars of the Roses continues with Trinity, the second gripping novel in the new series from historical fiction master, Conn Iggulden.

Also many are aware of the bloody English civil war which ripped the country apart as the red rose of Lancaster battled the white rose of York. For one, if you should accept this challenge (War of the Roses) then you're in it for the longhaul as this book jus stops. I don’t know that this will replace my favorite book by Conn Iggulden, because Wolf of the Plains is a truly special story. My assumption is that the unrest and riots in England put such a fear into the authorities that the major armies were kept at home. His fears seem justified as English power comes under threat from France, and discontent and rebellion spread at home. I take my hat off to Conn Iggulden for writing a great book and kicking me off to finish the series. Following on from Stormbird, the Sunday Times best-seller, Trinity is the second book in his superb new series set during the Wars of the Roses, a remarkable period of British history. The brilliant retelling of the Wars of the Roses continues with Bloodline, the gripping third novel in the new series from historical fiction master Conn Iggulden.

Wars of the Roses: Stormbird: Book 1 (The Wars of the Roses) An excellent UK first edition/ first print hardback in an unblemished dust-wrapper (fitted with a removable, clear, thin film protector). I doff my cap sir, i didn’t think you could out do wolf of the plains, but you prove me wrong again….Unfortunately, the second half of the book – Richard III’s reign and the rise of the Tudors – seems rushed, hopping from event to event with little to no build up or explanation for motivations. In his end notes Conn Iggulden comments on how historical fiction often involves filling in the gaps and unexplained parts of history. Fine condition used Oct 2013 Exclusive Signed First Edition/ First Print Hardback with intact unclipped Dust Jacket. I acquired it shortly after its release when I attended a talk by the author at Sheffield central library. With a weak leader and men who help the king lead making things worse, the common people take it the hardest and they decide to do something about it.

They simply wanted a better leader not one who surrender hard won land in France; they wanted a man like Henry Bolingbroke or his son: they wanted the house of York. This book is far more deserving of a 4 1/2 out of 5 but as you can't mark it like that on here and I didn't have the conviction to mark it a perfect 5/5, I had to go for a four instead. Seeing both sides of the unrest, the commoners and those who served the king, really was intriguing. The story is focused around families and politics during the reign of Henry who was said to have been a weak King, not only does he have a weak constitution he is very poor in health, he is also heavily influenced by his corrupt advisors.
