About this deal

When home, I looked more closely at the packaging and was struck by how much space was given to the distillery's usage of worm tubs. They needed a Single Malt as an ingredient for White Horse Blended Scotch, so the distillery was designed to produce a very specific distillery style which the team replicate to this day. With Water: A few drops of water release a nice orange peel note which merges well with the caramel. Craigellachie Distillery, nestled in the enchanting Speyside region of Scotland, is known for producing a bold and distinctive single malt Scotch whisky.

Worms are also made from copper, but the influence is less significant than the effect of rapid cooling that captures the remaining heavy compounds and adds texture. The first in our Craigellachie Cask Finishing Collection is our award-winning 13 year old Craigellachie Single Malt finished in Bas-Armagnac casks sourced from the northernmost part of Gascony, in France. The scarce presence of single malt Craigellachie beyond independent bottlings makes this a splendid resurgence, gracing our glasses with its exceptional presence once more!In Speyside itself, Balmenach, Benrinnes, Glen Elgin, Speyburn, Ballandalloch, and Cragganmore, Mortlach and of course Craigellachie all have worm tubs. Now allowed to shine in its own light, Craigellachie is shown to be a chunky, spicy single malt full of character. Two men were behind the scheme to build a distillery at Craigellachie: a young local, Alexander Edward, and Peter Jeffrey Mackie, the owner of Lagavulin Distillery, Islay, and also of the White Horse brand of blended Scotch. Two gentlemen with distilling backgrounds, Alexander Edward and Peter Mackie built the distillery on land they bought from Edward's father in 1891. This expression was released for the first time in 2014 after a maturation process that lasted 13 years.

Arriving at the small doorway into Malts and Spirits, two people were concluding their sale at the small till zone, so I lingered outside until I felt awkward and then made my way in. yo Craigellaghie is one of my favourite whiskies, I’ve bought and sipped 4 bottles, however, this Bas armagnac cask is a step up, not necessarily in quality, but as a dram sipping experience, beautiful apple and green fruit, juicy fruit goodness great a. I arrived back at the car before the girls and despite my attempts to hide the wee black bag in the boot, it was immediately spotted by the boss. I got the impression that no matter what budget I arrived with, I’d have received the same attention anyway.

Craigellachie 13 Year Old evokes Bonfire Night: aromas of oozing toasted marshmallows, fire-roasted pineapples and baked apples studded with cloves, with the tang of cordite lingering in the background. It's been relegated to hot toddy fodder; it's not bad with honey and lemon but an expensive dram for mixing. After a few sips, I get a slightly metallic flavor on the back of the tongue which is not offensive. A worm tub, for those uneducated in the intricacies of distillation like me, is used in the distillation process after the spirit has been boiled in the copper stills.
