About this deal

Not knowing the exact application and set-up it is almost impossible for us to diagnose the issue from a distance. The threaded part(s) of plumbing fittings are usually made to a British Standard Pipe Thread size (BSP). There might be a little color difference due to the monitor, camera or other factors, please refer to the physical item.

The size was originally based on the inside diameter, measured in inches, of a steel pipe for which the thread was intended. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others.

In 1991 I transferred to Lawrenceville (USA) and since 2006 I have been product manager for mechanical pressure and temperature instrumentation and accessories. They are both the same, since the ’19’ refers to 19 threads per inch (tpi) which is the standard thread pitch for a 1/4 BSP P thread. DIN3852-A is used with a bonded seal (also known as a Dowty seal) which is a steel washer that has an elastomer ring bonded to the inside diameter of the washer. Longscrew threads These are parallel pipe threads used where a pressure-tight joint is achieved by the compression of a soft material (such as an o-ring seal or a washer) between the end face of the male thread and a socket or nipple face, with the tightening of a backnut. Some pressure connections also include a tapered shank which assists in the correct alignment of the bonded seal. This is the source of the confusion, as people incorrectly think the size refers to the outside diameter of the male thread. It's also silicone-free, so you can use it in no-contamination manufacturing units like soldering, special packaging or coating facilities.

DIN3852-E type pressure fittings include a channelled profile in the sealing face for accepting an elastomer seal. The main benefit of this connection type is it’s convenience at being integral to the process connector eliminating the need for additional components or alignment of the seal. The main purpose of the parallel threads is to contain the pressure, which allows for regular installations and removals without damaging the thread. Often the 2nd P is left off because BSPT tapered threads are less common and BSP is assumed to be parallel unless otherwise specified. As for the “A” or “B” in some name, such as the common G ¼ B connection type, the letter denote lets users know 1) it’s a male thread, as female BSP threads don’t have a final letter, and 2) its tolerance class.

It has been adopted as standard in plumbing and pipe fitting, except in North America, where NPT and related threads are used. Neither will work, BSP or G parallel threads are not compatible with NPT tapered threads, ideally you should use an adapter between the two threads to be sure of a reliable seal between the two different types of thread. It is useful to know their differences – and also how to recognize which type is in use – without having to remove the entire assembly. Both the A and the B forms connect to the same female thread and seal without a problem in combination with a sealing gasket.

S. and Canada also use parallel threads like the NPSM (National Pipe Straight Mechanical) connector. Due to the spiral leak path, however, Teflon® tape (PTFE) or a sealing compound is required to create a good seal. In a way, it looks like that it could work but in general, we do not recommend combining two dissimilar threads with each other. In the modern standard metric version, it is simply a size number, where listed diameter size is the major outer diameter of the external thread. Inch BSP - Central heating oil line connectors, some European toilet cistern fill valves (not common in UK).
