About this deal

Joining our award winning Tobermory 12 year old, our 21 year old has been finished in Oloroso sherry casks, with notes of cherry wood, brown sugar and caramelised pineapples. Powerful rich, sherried, herbal smoky flavours, orange peel, coffee, a touch of sea salt, tobacco and white pepper. Tantalisingly sweet, medicinal flavours infused with enticing sparks of spicy pepper and dried fruit with rich peaty smoke and a velvety vanilla and malty creaminess. Only 276 bottles were produced from this outrun, which was matured in a single Bourbon Hogshead for 13 years.

This is a vintage, 17 year Ledaig that has been matured in a combination of American Oak and Moscatel wine casks. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. In 1797 John Sinclair, an innovative kelp merchant, applied for a lease of land known as Ledaig – pronounced ‘letch-ick’ – which means ‘safe haven’.

A heavily peated expression from Tobermory distillery on the Isle of Mull, this 10 year old single malt is matured in superior oak casks, combining the dark, aromatic lochan water from high on the mountains with exclusively peat-dried malted barley. The first expression in The Hebridean Series, our award-winning Tobermory 23 year old is an exquisite single malt, entwined with salted toffee and floral honey, finishing with caramelised walnuts and a subtle salty undercurrent. With this in mind, I recently unearthed a Ledaig 10yo and a nice sample of the Ledaig 18yo at the back of the cupboard. Distilled at Ledaig, this Whisky can only be described as an experience; at the first sip it transports you to a seaside barbecue, with a ha.

Packed full of ripe berries, bitter chocolate, toasted oak and a sprinkling of cinnamon, this is not one to miss! This unpeated 10-Year-Old Distillery Exclusive has been finished for four years in first fill port casks, creating a sweet and fruity Tobermory dram. The 18 is becoming a little bit harder to find these days, I think that’s what swayed me towards a sample of it. My recent review on the Cadenhead’s Tomatin 12 really blew the doors off in realising how magical that independent bottler is.

Originally however, the name of Ledaig was used for this Isle of Mull distillery when established in 1798 by John Sinclair.Palate: Tantalisingly sweet, medicinal flavours infused with enticing sparks of spicy pepper and dried fruit with rich peaty smoke and a velvety vanilla and malty creaminess. Provenance single cask single malts from Douglas Laing offer a taste of the hugely varied work of Scotland's whisky regions. Inactivity and nothingness continued however right through the vast majority of the 20th century before Ledaig’s previous owners, Burn Stewart Distillers came to the fore and purchased the Mull distillery.

The peat turns more smokey on the palate, as if bonfire embers are fighting sea spray that’s dampening the fire out.

Notes of barley and malt extract, with walnut and pine oil and a hint of iodine, dried fruit and nuts. The flagship expression from Ledaig’s core range is the 10 Year Old , but a good entry point may be the NAS Sinclair Series - named after John Sinclair, who helped established the original distillery in the 18th century.
