When I say ‘plagued’ – this was far from a bad presentation, but it was also far from the presentation that fans were expecting for such a significant release.

Well, I’d really like to say that it is, but the cynic in me nags away with the nightmarish threat of a further Blu-ray release – timed to coincide with Christmas 2012’s release of the first Hobbit prequel. They bought the DVDs of the three movies when they first came out, then the trilogy box set, then the extended editions, limited editions, extended trilogy, and finally, in April of 2010, the long-awaited Blu-ray edition.What may be most amazing about this series — aside from its command of CGI effects; aside from its compelling characters and story; aside from the fabulous star-making performances of Viggo Mortensen and Orlando Bloom; aside from the great casting; aside from the beautiful New Zealand vistas shot by Andrew Lesnie; aside from the sheer spectacle of it all — is how Peter Jackson has made these films his own. The long spoke of "Mouth of Sauron" scene, in which a nefarious ambassador (Bruce Spence) meets Aragorn's army at the Black Gates, takes about a minute.

But everything rests on Frodo getting that ring destroyed as both he and Sam come to think it will be the end of them. where everyone talks about the relief of having finished, the premieres, and (briefly) what's to come.THEN we'll get the all new packaged master director's uncut extended deluxe box set of both the Hobbit and LOTR. The end result here pays off in dividends, with solid blacks, rich and vibrant tones and excellent detail throughout. Usually when new transfers are done, we drag a digital file of the previous transfer alongside it, and pop it up for comparison now and then. They meet Aragorn (Mortensen) who helps them get to Elrond (Hugo Weaving) so they can decide what to do with the ring.
