About this deal

How you respond to David Farr’s drama about a former Sixties radical who cheats death by turning herself into a cyborg depends, to a large extent, on whether you are a fan of Adam Curtis, the man responsible for those relentlessly quirky documentaries about society and its ills (cue archive film of SS men playing backgammon to the sound of Doris Day’s Que Sera, Sera). Ti Green’s set is both mystical and technological: a huge wooden frame, like a doorway to another world, is outlined fluorescently; a pale background with shifting lines evokes the canvases of Agnes Martin, who built a cabin in Taos and who died there; she appears, still and meditative, as an inspirational force. The 103 third parties who use cookies on this service do so for their purposes of displaying and measuring personalized ads, generating audience insights, and developing and improving products. A young woman is screaming, howling, and contorting her body with rage as an unfazed group of hippies looks on.

They are all questions that frustratingly never get answered or even given room for much discussion and thought. You will need to show your ticket either on a mobile or tablet, or as a print-out before you are allowed to enter the performance. Crucially, Eve Ponsonby gives a compelling central performance as insufficient mother and avatar; all in white, pale faced, hair unleashed; part Isadora Duncan, part Florence of the machine. David Farr’s latest play lands in London for a strictly limited run after touring across the UK from its inception at the Bristol Old Vic.Faber Members get access to live and online author events and receive regular e-newsletters with book previews, promotional offers, articles and quizzes.

David Farr’s unusual and inquiring play, directed by Rachel Bagshaw and produced by Fuel, becomes an existential mystery exploring what constitutes humanness and how we can be truly free. Brought to the stage of the Marylebone Theatre, the production retains the fable-like quality of the original; Samantha Spiro plays the narrator, telling the fable from a storybook with the help of only sparse props, mainly confined to an armchair. His plays The Danny Crowe Show, Elton John’s Glasses, Night of the Soul, Ramayana, The UN Inspector, The Heart of Robin Hood, The Hunt and a collection of adaptations have all been published by Faber. Ti Green’s set is minimalist, carried by a huge backdrop of screens that serve as a place to display subtitles as well as graphics to enrich the story.Dave made his (somewhat unwilling) stage debut via audience participation on the day before Covid lockdowns began. Loosely inspired by Adam Curtis’ documentary The Century of the Self , A Dead Body in Taos explores what developments in artificial intelligence might mean for our understanding of death, consciousness and the soul. A Dead Body in Taos is an imaginative and compelling narrative portraying the full range of raw and visceral emotions experienced in our human existence and how the A. The Most Precious of Goods first appeared as a French novella in 2019, telling the story of a father separated from his baby daughter on a train to a concentration camp in the Holocaust like a fable.

Gemma Lawrence’s Sam makes sturdy work of a daughter that has not felt the love of a Mother for most of her life – but we don’t see her grapple with the emotional torment anywhere near enough. However, Farr’s writing and plot design manage to build their own spot in the fictional universe, resulting in a text that, though not exceptional, achieves to create a much enjoyable and interesting ride as well as bonding a connection between the viewers and many of the roles – no matter how loveable or obnoxius (seriously, you want to throw the lead’s mother out of the window) they are.is a philosophical riddle wrapped inside a story about grief, filtered through a futuristic fantasy. His tension between professionalism and his personal response to the case is subtly but powerfully enacted. Our scope is wide-ranging, from Greek tragedy to stand-up comedy; from ballet and opera to mime and experimental theatre.
