About this deal

It’s full of detailed and beautiful illustrations about the world of Tolkien, made by many artists through out the years. An Atlas of Tolkien begins with a preface explaining the book’s purpose and the geographical and historical contexts of J. Pages 12 and 53: Dorthonion and Himring are slightly above parallel J, but Tol Fuin and Himling are shown further north, above parallel I. As I mentioned, the binding is a thick leather, or more likely imitation leather, with embossment for the title and author.

Considerata la fattura, gli artwork a colori, la qualità delle pagine, e mille altre cose, ne varrebbe anche il doppio secondo me. Almost all of the maps in this book are done by Davies, and all suffer similar problems, but it is here, more than the map of Numenor, that they become obvious. Now, some of the artwork is beautiful, and I think that is essentially, what makes this book good, but, some of it, I didn't appreciate in the least, and for me, it looked too simple. He has subsequently published six illustrated books of children's stories and three illustrated books of children's poems.Further maps are given of significant events, such as the Battle of the Pelennor Fields in front of Minas Tirith. Either Dáin must have arrived on 24 November or Bilbo must have handed over the Arkenstone late on 21 November.

Were the contents better, this might be a nice addition to a collection, but they aren't and it isn't. As always stay tuned for more brewfests, beer reviews, brewery trips, hike reviews, book reviews, interviews, and more!Together with Tolkien: The Illustrated Encyclopedia , these books have been translated into sixteen languages, and have sold in excess of two million copies.

For instance, there are entries about Balrogs, Utumno, Huan, and others without really naming anything related to geography. A Canadian living in Toronto, Day has also published over thirty other books of mythology, history, fantasy, fiction, and poetry, for both adults and children. It provides many maps at different levels of detail, from whole lands to cities and individual buildings, and of major events like the Battle of the Pelennor Fields. The edition may seem a bit superfluous, but there’s some good information in here along with some glorious artwork. After finishing high school in Victoria, British Columbia, Day worked as a logger for five years on Vancouver Island before graduating from the University of Victoria. He was also an environmental columnist for Britain's Daily Mail, Evening Standard, Guardian, Sunday Times and Punch magazine.
