About this deal

Sleaford Mods is an English music duo based in Nottingham, composed of vocalist Jason Williamson and musician Andrew Robert Lindsay Fearn (since 2012).

There's no special claims made for the city; no grandly romantic nonsense about its worth vis-a-vis other UK cities.

Enter Mr Jim Sclavunos, the multi talented Grinderman and Bad Seed, not to mention the superbaaad connoisseur of the mixing console, fresh from producing the storming second Jim Jones Revue album. Hard not to like the whole album as it is a stinging wake up and listen slap, that makes a change from pseudo tough nut bands. Closer listening (to Jason Williamson’s lyrics), reveals wit and humour in abundance mixed with clever word play - a harsh realistic ‘tails’ to Shaun Ryder’s hedonistic ‘heads’. A turbulent brew with just as much 60s garage rock bite, head-spinning psychedelia and '1991-The-Year-That-Punk-Broke' grit to offer as Vinum Sabbathi riffage.

Sleaford Mods know this too: on 'Urine Mate', frontman Jason Williamson tells us about seeing one of Nottingham's better known alcoholics putting his bin out and "stinking of urine", whilst people from Mapperley Park (a fairly salubrious area) "point and laugh".The music is quite basic, a drum machine, a bass guitar and a few frills, with Jason Williamson venting his spleen and getting a few things off his chest over the top. Designer, architect and artist, his iconic work for Yes, Uriah Heep, Budgie, countless Vertigo sleeves and much more, has almost come to define 70's sleeve art. If you dig the cynical, parochial, outsider attitude of acts as diverse as MC Pitman, The Fall, John Cooper Clark, Half Man Half Biscuit, et al then you'll recognise the unapologetic, uncompromising mettle present here. We carry a broad range of CDs and vinyl (7”/12” singles and LPs) and specialise in indie, alternative, rock, punk, metal plus a few other genres.

Inevitably, Sleaford Mods have gained comparisons with Nottingham's favourite anti-hero Arthur Seaton (indeed, Williamson has played Seaton in a Saturday Night Sunday Morning-inspired event and the video for new single 'Mr.

High use of swearing and good use of humour, some of the tracks can be found on Wank - the previous album, but are in a more refined format here, and much improved for it for the most part - though I can't help but miss the demo urgency of their predecessors. With the DJ in mind, optimum sonic integrity has been maintained by removing the CD version's beatless opening and closing tracks, and the remaining 11 tunes have been re-sequenced and re-cut to allow those 4 that have until now not appeared on vinyl to be presented in newly-mastered 12-inch-standard audio across the first 2 sides ('Wounder', 'U Hurt Me', 'Spaceape' and 'Prayer').

As well as the unparalleled joy of keeping the publication alive, you'll receive benefits including exclusive editorial, podcasts, and specially-commissioned music by some of our favourite artists.Jason Williamson's earthy, aggressive street-poetry fits the rumbling bass, skittering drum machine and skeletal samples/rhythms like a glove.
