IKEA track (old style with plastic connectors): The track in the old style of IKEA train sets works well enough, but there are some compatibility issues with other brands of track (see below), the range of track pieces is limited, and the bridges are too low for trains from most other brands to go under. Fun fact: The name "Brio" comes from the acronym for "Bröderna Ivarsson Osby," which means "the Ivarsson brothers of Osby. We’ve only ever bought Brio track as part of a set as well, but they do offer different packs of track. The set I have is the 58 piece expansion, so it didn’t come with trains, but I’ve been using those unpainted trains heavily this year at train shows and recommend them.When considering the integration of Ikea playsets with those from other brands, it’s pertinent to note that most Ikea wooden track aligns well with counterparts from leading manufacturers including brio track and brio sets and thomas trains, though there are instances of system discrepancies that may pose compatibility challenges. Both BigJigs and Brio train sets are made primarily of wood, which gives them their classic look and feel.
