About this deal

Tam Hardie stood, a mix of apprehension and excitement beginning to take hold as he saw the six words that his grandfather had assured him would be there. L. Taylor 'The most authentic voice in thriller writing' Tony Parsons 'A genuinely thrilling adventure' Scottish Sun 'A page turner you won't want to miss' Denzil Meyrick Don't miss the first stunning thriller in the new DS Max Craigie Scottish Crime series! Craigie finds both friendship and invaluable help from Janie, a strong and independent woman to be reckoned with. Neil served as a military policeman and worked for the Metropolitan Police as a detective, investigating serious crimes in the capital and beyond.

That beginning leads Max to uncovering corruption that spreads to the heights of the Scottish Police force. The author was previously a Metropolitan police detective investigating serious crimes in addition to serving in the military police so I would recommend this to those connoisseurs of police tactical methods. He served as a military policeman in the RAF and worked as a detective for the Metropolitan Police, investigating serious crimes in the capital and beyond. I’m afraid I’m badly out of step with most other reviewers here, but I really didn’t think Dead Man’s Grave was much good. I say I started writing a procedural, but as often happens, it soon began to morph, and by the end of the book it was a full-on conspiracy thriller with bent cops, evil gangsters and a determined, hard-case of a good cop battling the odds.

I was hooked by the opening scenario of the old man in a strange grave and drawn in further by the reason for his murder.

The settings are fantastic, I love the coast beyond Inverness, the Black Isle and as for the dolphins as Chanonry Point, be still my beating heart! It is plot/action based rather than character based, and thus, for me, it was an average read; I prefer stories driven by character development. The head of Scotland’s most powerful crime family is brutally murdered, his body dumped inside an ancient grave in a remote cemetery.

Using mobile phone data to track the old man, Max and Janie follow Hardie Snr’s trail to the graveyard, find his car parked there and soon discover Hardie’s corpse, hidden in the same grave he opened.

No dual timelines, action packed and with some very likeable main characters, I can definitely recommend this book to others.I will admit to a moment of alarm when Max’s dog, Nutmeg, was introduced and had to take a sneaky peak at the end to see if she survived. A breathtaking, chilling, Scottish crime fiction mystery thriller about blood feuds, dirty cops, and solving a case that could cost far more than just lives. This is another new author and I will definitely be seeking out his other books if they are like this one.
