About this deal

In the sequel, he has to compete in a relay race with a turtle and a snail on his team, and learns the lesson that teamwork is more important than winning.

CEE100 The CEE100 is an initiative that profiles 100 leading executives from channels, platforms and producers who are redefining the content business across Central and Eastern Europe. So when he finds a beautiful golden horn while walking through the forest, he eagerly ties it to the top of his head. In A Horse Named Steve from Kids Can Press, Kelly Collier takes on confidence, bravado, hubris, and what it means or not to be exceptional in a wry way, both in her text and in her illustrations. It's a simple story without a lot of deep hidden meanings, but it can also prompt interesting discussions about being a leader or a follower, what makes some people want to stand out, and what kinds of situations make us happy. It's that that makes him exceedingly SPECIAL and something he can accomplish all on his own and been there the whole time!

Everything on screen in the series, from sets and props to characters, was crafted from actual things found washed up on beaches. A Horse Named Steve is a sign of what’s to come at Sixteen South, as it expands its slate and shifts more focus to comedy, adds Williams. Following Driftwood Bay we worked on Claude, a book adaptation done in a hand-drawn style, and Wildwoods, a live-action puppet comedy. We asked them if we were too late, but they responded saying no, that we were the first people to get in touch about A Horse Named Steve. A Horse Named Steve follows an endearingly silly horse named Steve who finds a magical golden horn in the forest. Not everyone is impressed, but most of his friends agree --- Steve and his horn are indeed exceptional. This appears to be Kelly Collier's debut, so although I wouldn't describe it as a favorite, of the recent picture-books I have read, I do think it deserves praise.

There is a purity and innocence about Steve which is expertly captured in her drawings and is considerably endearing. Belfast-based animation studio Sixteen South is developing a 2D animated series based on popular Canadian kids’ book A Horse Named Steve, written by Kelly Collier (author and illustrator).

With its hilarious text and illustrations, this one would make a fun read-aloud, and many outside-the-box children will understand Steve's desire to be fabulously different. He rushes to show his animal friends, who are a little confused but agree that Steve is, in fact, exceptional -- and promptly go find things to attach to their own heads so they can be just like him. As you may have imagined from the title, the story follows a horse named Steve who is on a desperate mission to become exceptional.
