About this deal

It could be used in PSHE to highlight the importance of developing relationships, and in understanding the importance of showing compassion to others. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. Poor Hugless Douglas just wants to find someone to hug, but it isn't as easy as you'd think when you're a big bear! My son particularly likes the poor little owl which ends up all ruffled up after one of Douglas' over enthusiastic hugs!

The writing is engaging, the vocabulary clear and accessible, and the core concept will strike a chord with any young book fans. I think a lot of kids (and adults) will get a kick out of this story of the baby bear Douglas who wakes up and feels like he really needs a hug.Sensitive and insightful, this poignant story provides an ideal starting point for discussion about how it feels when things go wrong.

Hugless Douglas mag zwar nur auf englisch erhältlich sein, aber der Inhalt der Geschichte und die Bilder sind international. Pooh has Piglet but this poor chap has no one to take his affections out on and a bear-hug is probably not everyone's cup of tea so he has work set out for him. He’s the bear that nobody wants to hug (apart from everyone who reads the book) and who ruins his wooly hat. David Melling is the king of picture books and I love both his wonderful words and his marvelous illustrations.Fancy Dress Farmyard is great for preschoolers because it’s a game of peekaboo and the illustrations are bright, bold and funny. When Hugless Douglas goes on a best friend hunt with Flossie the sheep, everyone seems to have a best friend except him! So he forces his hugs on several non-consenting animals throughout, pinning them with his big bear arms so they can't get away. One thing I particularly love about David Melling’s illustrations is that he portrays emotion so well in both the facial expressions and body language of his characters.

Before creating picture books, David worked as a photographer and as an animation artist for films including the much-loved Father Christmas by Raymond Briggs. They particularly like the descriptions that accompany the hugs, 'Daisy chain hug', 'unrequited hug' and I shan't spoil any of the others .But when the surprise turns out to be his over-excited twin cousins, Douglas is sure this will be the worst birthday ever! But, he is still quite big and, well, a bear--so not really a creature a lot of critters will be eager to hug.
