About this deal

I figure as time goes on there will be better and better 4K\UHD transfers and the format will be further supported by those merits. Russell Crowe nails the role of Jor-El, imbuing Superman’s father with the kind of power and presence required for the part, but also giving him a noble humanity that Crowe always brings to his characters.

Part of the problem of bringing Superman to the big screen, especially in light of Richard Donner’s classic 1978 take, is that while the character’s signature idealism and “big blue boy scout” rectitude are arguably as relevant now as ever, they’re also much harder to sell in our more cynical times. Despite not always looking healthy, facial complexions are very revealing with excellent lifelike textures, and the clothing, especially the Kryptonian outfits, exposes every stitch and thread of the fabric. This immersive feature-length experience allows you to watch the movie with director Zack Snyder, crew and the stars as they share the incredible journey to re-imagine Superman in the film. The video presentation is so damn good, it can't help but further highlight the videogame shortcomings of the over-CG-ified final act.

However, you already knew what you were getting into once you heard or should I said read the word “reboot. Like I mentioned up above in the video section, the below audio score and comments are based solely upon my viewing of the 4K UHD Blu-ray presentation of Man of Steel. This is the first release in quite awhile where I only needed 15 seconds to know I would not make a purchase. At the moment, we are unable to verify the size of the content, but the triple-layered UHD100 disc sits comfortably opposite a Region Free, BD50 disc inside a black, eco-cutout case with a glossy slipcover. The steelbook is awful with Superman's top of the head cut off as if Hannibal Lecter had done a number on him.

Still, as he grows into a teen and eventually becomes an adult, Clark (Brit actor Henry Cavill, best known in the States for his role on Showtime’s The Tudors) can’t resist helping people and saving lives, thus risking his own exposure as he wanders the world, struggling to find his place within it. This is what leads our hero to make a difficult choice when battling Zod, another being guided by his own personal moral compass of wanting to ensure the survival of his species, to do something we wouldn't imagine Superman to do. While I’m sure it’s much to everyone’s surprise that there’s no reference at all to William’s iconic “Superman March,” that’s not necessary a bad thing…it’s a good thing. This includes, without limitation, direct loss, loss of business or profits (whether or not the loss of such profits was foreseeable, arose in the normal course of things or you have advised this Company of the possibility of such potential loss), damage caused to your computer, computer software, systems and programs and the data thereon or any other direct or indirect, consequential and incidental damages. Zack Snyder vision is a slow burn at the start, thankfully skipping the already-known origin story and focusing on Superman's first contact with humanity.

While the image here is not true 4K, as is Fox’s The Revenant for example, what you see here is a distinct improvement upon the previous Blu-ray release.

When questioning her pursuit, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, editor of "The Daily Planet," puts it very succinctly and frankly, a question that in turn reveals a major flaw within us as a supposedly open-minded civilization. Strong Characters, Legendary Roles (HD, 25:59) – Here we explore the legendary characters of the Superman mythology and comics over the years and how they have evolved in this new iteration of the Superman story with the likes of Geoff Johns in his Aquaman hat, director Zack Snyder, David Goyer, producer Alex McDowell and other cast and crew, including a glimpse of Chris Nolan! Dialogue still gains precedence over even the loudest deluge, coming across clearly and coherently throughout, largely from the fronts and centre channels, and the score is at hand from start to finish to sweep you up, enhance the emotional weight, or simply bring the thunder.
