About this deal

She cannot refuse this offer, and she is now being turned into the showcase, the main attraction until this reporter once again sniffs her out. Amelia Baxter, an ambitious journalist and suffragist, is discouraged when her editor refuses to let her cover the horrific Jack the Ripper murders. Despite her qualms, Miss Read decides to allow Mrs Pringle to continue cleaning her home on Wednesdays, and often has to bite her tongue. For Arthur Dent, who has only just had his house demolished that morning, this seems already to be more than he can cope with. She connects you to her characters and has you totally believing in them which allowed me to be totally invested in their lives.

Amelia takes out her frustration at not being assigned the stories she wants on Cora, a random target. The villagers know this as they take turns telling stories of their personal experiences with the woman who grew up nearby and now lives among them.

All of this leads to a thoroughly satisfying ending, having dipped into a deliciously different reality for a while. I can't say I liked Cora that much, although she was an interesting mix of selfishness, impetuosity and naivety. Nice change of pace and brings back fond memories of early school years and how I sorely miss a more leisure and pleasant life style. Best-selling author Mark Manson brings his signature no-nonsense wisdom back to the subject he started his career covering: relationships.

Cora and Amelia are great leads, both are such different women and yet despite Amelia trying her darndest to prove Cora is a fake they are more alike than they would care to admit; both are women in a man’s world, both women trying to survive and make a name for themselves without relying on men. A spiritualist who performs séance for society, quickly she becomes well known, as her business becomes lucrative. Poor Everett soon discovers that Cora is a liability, but refuses to walk away from their relationship. This is one of those books that once you start you can’t stop reading until you have reached the final word – well, that is what I would have done if everyday life hadn’t got in the way.To access you ebook(s) after purchasing, you can download the free Glose app or read instantly on your browser by logging into Glose.
