About this deal

I have owned it on DVD (the 1-disc 'Special Edition, not the later-released 2-disc 'Collector's Edition') for quite some years and never got around to considering a Blu-ray purchase of it. widescreen format and Dolby digital transfer this charming DVD is perfect for Halloween, Christmas and beyond! Deleted Animated Sequences keeps “Jack’s Scientific Experiments” (2:00), “Vampire Hockey Players” (0:17), and “Oogie Boogie Shadow Dance” (0:25)”, which consist of lengthened scenes from the final cut.

To adapt his poem into a screenplay, Burton approached Michael McDowell, his collaborator on Beetlejuice. Featuring a marvelous mix of characters and 11 ghoulishly captivating songs by Danny Elfman -- it's frightful fun for the whole family! For the adults, it's an opportunity to experience some light entertainment while marveling at how adept Hollywood has become at these techniques. In 2021, another version of Nightmare Before Christmas 13 Days of Christmas came out on July 6 and was soon followed by Little Golden Books's release of their adaptation of Nightmare Before Christmas on July 13, 2021.

In celebration of the film's 25th anniversary, a book and CD, featuring narration and sound effects, was released on July 3, 2018. For those who love everything Tim Burton and somehow missed this film like myself then this is a must watch. I thought the 3D Blu-ray of 'Prometheus' was pretty good (but occasionally things looked a bit 'artificial') and, in parts, that of 'Captain America: The First Avenger' (except the 3D relied more on conveying the effect of things 'flying' out of the screen towards you). Although most of the album's songs are not original ones from the film, one song is a medley of "Making Christmas", "What's This?Santa Claus' head has more than 50 different working parts, and Jack has more than 400 separate interchangeable heads, each handcrafted with a different facial expression. Meanwhile, despite her best efforts, Sally is unable to stop Jack from proceeding with his plan ("Sally's Song").

William Hickey as Doctor Finkelstein, a mad scientist and the loving but overbearing "father" of Sally. After briefly setting up how the project got started and the important role the music played in the forming of the story, the majority of the run-time explains the tedious and laborious process of creating the characters and getting them to move and interact on miniature sets. Jack stages a coup, orchestrating the kidnapping of Santa Clause and taking over the Christmas planning himself.Ken Page as Oogie Boogie, a villainous bogeyman in Halloween Town, who has a passion for gambling and rivalry with Jack. The budget was less than any Disney blockbuster so it doesn't have to earn Aladdin-sized grosses to satisfy us. It tells the story of Jack Skellington, the King of "Halloween Town", who stumbles upon "Christmas Town" and schemes to take over the holiday. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds a rating of 95% based on 106 reviews, with an average rating of 8. Disney was looking forward to Nightmare "to show capabilities of technical and storytelling achievements that were present in Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment released the film on DVD again (this time with an anamorphic transfer) and on Blu-ray Disc (for the first time) on August 26, 2008, as a two-disc digitally remastered "collector's edition", but still containing the same special features.

In celebration of the film's 20th anniversary, the poem was re-released with a hardcover edition in 2013. I really got the impression of 'shape' and 'form' to everything (something I've found lacking in most 3D films I've seen) with, for example, the unmistakable feeling of being able to see down/into holes/voids etc. Around the release of the film, Hoberman was quoted, "I hope Nightmare goes out and makes a fortune.
