About this deal

If you're craving some witchy vibes or want all the feelings of a cozy romance, then this is it."—Culturess To make the whole situation worse, Oz is in a bit of a rough patch. His reputation as a demon is already on shaky ground ever since he accidentally consumed a mortal soul, giving him the emotions of a human. His boss isn’t real happy about that. But Oz is determined to collect Mariel’s powerful soul to make things right. And of course, the more they spend time together, the more they learn how much they like each other. Mariel Spark knows not to trust a demon, especially one that wants her soul, but what’s a witch to do when he won’t leave her side – and she kind of doesn’t want him to? How is your spellcraft going?" Diantha Spark's strident voice burst through the speaker, and Mariel pulled the phone away from her ear. "Did you summon an air sprite correctly?"

Oz was such a contrast, cause I was waiting for him to be ruthless and unfeeling but he turned out to be such a vulnerable and sensitive man demon 🖤 .

I’m sorry, WHAT? And the characters just breeze past it. No one corrects her for saying such a gross (and misogynistic) thing. The characters act like it’s normal when it’s very much not. I care. Mom says she'll only pay for grad school once I improve in teleportation and transmogrification."

What follows from then is a tug of war between Ozroth who needs to bargain for Mariel’s soul, and Mariel, you know, wanting to keep her soul! The pair must also enter into a fake relationship to keep others from discovering who Ozroth truly is, yet it isn’t long until sparks (get it?!) begin to fly between them. What in the Wizards of Waverly Place was this? This was such a difficult book to digest and I’m so disappointed because the premise was amazing. The book starts off light and funny but after a few chapters I felt very overstimulated. It was so chaotic and every single character was way too much.Mariel is supposed to be an all powerful witch, except she hasn't mastered her power. When she accidentally summons a demon, the two are trapped together until they can figure out a way out of a bargain for her soul. As time goes by, the two must fake date and end up catching feelings. I don't know why 3rd act breakups are thrown into books that already have drama and tension in the plot. This book was always building to culmination outside of the romance. Berkley Publishing Group and Sarah Hawley provided a complimentary digital ARC of this novel via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own. Publication date is currently set for March 07, 2023. Life wasn’t a fairy tale full of true love and redeemed villains. The villains were called that for a reason.

Mariel was such a dorky and goofy type of character, we meet her and she has such a refreshing energy. Her arc was great , at first she struggles with self-esteem and pressure from her social circle, and I adored her character growth at the end . If you enjoy paranormal romcoms then you don’t want to miss this one! There is some heat (it’s not a clean romcom) but its tasteful and fun enough for all readers! Watching him fall for Caroline and open himself to joy in the process was a treat. And Caroline... oh, I would die for Caroline. Kind, generous, endlessly brave, and determined to share her whole heart with a world that doesn't always treat her with the care she deserves. These two wounded souls might not seem like an obvious match on the surface, but as in all great romances, their flaws and virtues make them a perfect fit. (And if Caroline would like to expand her portfolio of sugar babies, I am interested!) Everyone's your enemy when you're the best. I know you don't know how that feels yet, but there weren't any prophecies delivered at Calladia's birth, so I'm certain you'll show her up soon. You're the daughter of the best teleporter in three hundred years, after all." With a little foray into toxic families, capitalist city councils, and supportive friendships, the book is a delight. Plus Oz is super sexy and super into Marial, so y'know, that's fun, too. We're already excited about more demon/witch love stories!Mariel Spark is prophesied to be the most powerful witch seen in centuries of the famed Spark family, but to the displeasure of her mother, she prefers baking to brewing potions and gardening to casting hexes. When a spell to summon flour goes very wrong, Mariel finds herself staring down a demon – one she inadvertently summoned for a soul bargain. I don't know if this was meant to be humorous or painful or over the top. But it came across as excessive. And I could have done without a lot of it. I also wish Mariel would’ve refrained from telling her friends that she was fake dating Oz because it kinda dampened the effect. I wanted even more from the fake dating element because it was so fun seeing them interact. We were also robbed of a good drunk demon scene! Oz was buzzed and then immediately it was killed by the fight 😭

Our MMC is a demon that, from a bargain gone... in a different way than expected, has gained a soul, and this soul makes him experience feelings as humans do. It is so fun and interesting seeing Oz experimenting feeling in a way he had never before. And discovering how sentimental and sincere he is. Mariel eventually stands up to her mother and sets boundries, but I feel weird that it was the MMC that caused her to do so. It feels like he “fixed” her, which isn’t necessarily the case. He gave her some confidence, but I would have preferred therapy. Overall story & plot This is was fun and adorable paranormal rom-com, heavy on the com. I think this book would be perfect for contemporary rom-com readers who are interested in breaking into paranormal romance but don't know where to start.

I loved the world in this book. There are magical libraries full of old medieval tomes about wyverns, succubi, dragons, and demons. There are dating apps called Bumbelina for magical creatures and a reality TV show called America’s Next Top Witch. I’m especially fond of the grumpy werewolf who owns a plant shop called Zev’s Plant Emporium.
