About this deal

The programme is filmed at West Horsley Place in Surrey, England, a large country house unexpectedly inherited by the writer and former University Challenge presenter Bamber Gascoigne in 2014 from his great aunt, the Duchess of Roxburghe, under circumstances not dissimilar to those depicted in the series. [16] [17] Some scenes were also filmed on London Road and Clandon Road in nearby Guildford [18] with outside images of the famous Bettys Tea Rooms in Harrogate, North Yorkshire rebranded as "Sandrine's" in the penultimate scene of the final episode of series three. I guess she's the baby of the group, and people feel quite protective of her, especially considering that she had didn't have the easiest time when she was alive. Despite that, she is this constant source of positivity. She has her tantrums and cries a lot as well, but she tends to be the optimist. She is always positive, and that's a very good quality. Especially around a load of cynical old fogies, you're going to need her buoyancy. Kids relate to Kitty the most, which is very nice to hear.

Peter Sandys-Clarke as Anthony Havers – The Captain's lieutenant and close friend during the war, towards whom he was unable to admit his romantic feelings. I think I welled up rather than actually crying! We were all proud of what we’ve achieved. If you had told us at the beginning that we would have got five series and three Christmas specials, we’d have been delighted. We would have taken that. I think we achieved what we set out to do, which was to make a series that appealed across the generations. Kids felt it was a show for grown-ups that they were allowed to watch, which is what I used to like doing as a child with Last of the Summer Wine. The fifth and final series of Ghosts starts Friday 6 October at 8.30pm on BBC One and will be available as a boxset on BBC iPlayer. I definitely cried. There were a lot of tears from all the cast and crew. I can’t remember the last thing I did for five years. School was probably the last thing I did consistently for five years. Andreeva, Nellie (4 March 2020). " 'iZombie' Star Rose McIver To Headline CBS Comedy Pilot 'Ghosts' ". Deadline Hollywood. The Button House Archives will be published by Bloombury on 26th October, tying in with the end of the comedy. A booking mixup for a birthday party at Button House leaves Alison and Mike realising that they are not catering for two 86-year-olds, but 8- and 6-year-olds instead, and Mike is forced to organise the emergency change of plans. However, Alison has a lot more on her mind: when Mary suddenly and unexpectedly ascends into the afterlife, she and the ghosts have to find ways to deal with their grief. Furness, Hannah (21 March 2015). "Bamber Gascoigne to save 500-year-old manor after accidental inheritance". The Daily Telegraph . Retrieved 16 April 2019. A special 7-minute-long episode for Comic Relief, broadcast on 17 March 2023, guest starring Kylie Minogue [35] with a cameo appearance from Jason Donovan. Minogue had been due to appear in the sketch in 2022, but that appearance was cancelled due to her contracting COVID-19. [36] No.

Susannah Butter in the Evening Standard said the first episode reminded her of a property show, watching the couple view a terrible flat, before making their escape to the country. She was critical of the post-watershed scheduling of 9.30p.m., saying "it feels like a show that children would enjoy" and noting "This is a gentle ensemble comedy. Alison and Mike are wide-eyed, charming and likeable. I would gladly have them as friends, even though they can't sing...Nothing about this show is scary." [4] Carol Midgley in The Times was also confused by the scheduling, noting that "Ghosts is smut[-] and swearword-free" and calling it "a curiously life-affirming comedy about death". [3] I quite liked it, although we did film in the winter and outside at night, and it was so cold. I’d always be standing there in my bare legs freezing. I had some pyjama bottoms that could go on between takes. But by the time you put them on, it was always time to take them off again. Jim had it too because he was wearing shorts. But he’s got shorter legs than me, so he had less surface area to get cold!Mike is nervous about encountering Alison's ex-boyfriend, Kevin, at her school reunion because she has claimed she left Kevin for Mike. Thomas reveals to Alison that he died in a duel over a woman named Isabelle. Robin, Mary, and Kitty all recall the events differently. Humphrey helps Thomas realise that his cousin, Francis Button (the namesake of the house), engineered the duel and deceived Thomas into losing so Francis could court and marry Isabelle. Thomas did not die unloved, as he believed, yet this only makes him feel worse about the situation (especially as he cannot get rid of a forged letter that put Francis's plan into effect, as forms a part of his being). Mike discovers on Facebook that Kevin is an ex- convict and boxer. Alison explains to Mike that she lied and Kevin actually broke up with her. His fears assuaged, they leave for the reunion. In the nicest possible way, I hope they're going, “No! Why have they finished it?” because that’s what we keep saying –“Why have we done this?” I hope they feel that it's a rewarding tying up. We tried not to do what's expected. We wanted it to finish in a way that felt satisfying for the viewer, but also for the Ghosts, too. We wanted viewers to feel that all’s well with the characters, and we didn't want to do it in a trite way. We didn't want to do the obvious. We always get people pitching to us –“You know what you should do?” The number of people who've gone, “Mike should see the Ghosts, too.” You think you want that. It sounds fun, but what that actually does is fundamentally change the shape of the show and probably kill it. We tried to make a satisfying finale, but not do the expected. Lady Button living with Alison. They couldn't be more different, but there is such a tenderness in the way that Lady Button comes round and loves Alison, despite the fact that she represents everything that Lady Button thinks is awful. It's just nice. They have all sorts of clashes, but they have to get on with it. They have no choice. There is no exit route. They have to sit and talk. I think it's very cool. That must be good for lots of different cultures to explore.
