About this deal

You can set the alarm to wake you up to either a standard alarm buzzer sound or a radio station of your choice. When the alarm sounds, you can press the snooze button to pause it for 5 minutes or press the snooze button repeatedly to pause it for 10/15/30 minutes. You can also turn the alarm off altogether by pressing the alarm button. This radio lets you set two separate alarms. You can choose to wake up to a regular alarm sound or an FM or DAB radio station.

Roberts doesn’t list the power output or speaker size for the radio. There aren’t any EQ or bass/treble settings to change. You can set the display brightness to ‘Dim’, which should be low enough to prevent it keeping you awake at night while still allowing you to see the time. When the alarm sounds, you can push the Skip dial button to switch the radio to standby for 5 minutes. When you go to set the alarm, it will let you choose either the last station you were listening to or one of your saved presets. When you hit the snooze button you can choose to pause the alarm for 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 or 30 minutes, or switch it off altogether. The alarm stays on for 15, 30, 45, 60 or 90 minutes, so you can choose a time duration to suit your morning routine. The antenna is a wire which needs to be fully stretched out for the best reception. After uncurling the wire and positioning it in a vertical position behind a bedside table we switched the radio on for the first time. The radio received all the DAB digital radios stations we would expect to find. There were also no problems tuning into FM radio stations. Out of the products we’ve reviewed here, four have Bluetooth: The AZATOM Horizon, the John Lewis & Partners Aria, the Roberts Revival iStream 3 and the Majority Fulbourn II.

You can choose to use either a standard alarm buzzer sound or a radio station. If you want to wake up to a radio station, you can choose either the last station you were listening to or one of your presets. The display shows the time or 8 characters of a station name in the DAB digital radio mode. The station name is shown when RDS is available in the FM mode. After a few seconds of displaying the station name in either radio mode the display will revert to showing the time. As well as playing DAB, DAB+ and FM radio, the Siesta Rise can also stream content directly from your phone or tablet through Bluetooth too. What’s more, the screen automatically dims to avoid distracting you when you’re falling asleep. The radio will play for a duration of your choosing (15, 30, 45, 60 or 90 minutes). Of course, you can switch off the radio manually before this time period ends. The buttons on the top of the radio control the tuning, volume and other functions. In the centre of the controls is the OK / Snooze button. The other 12 buttons are laid out in two rows of three on each side. It’s easy to get used to the power button being in the top left and the volume being the two buttons furthest to the right. But at night it’s difficult to find the tuning buttons and switching to a different preset could be quite difficult without switching a light on. Suitable smartphones can be placed on the wireless charging padWi-fi for music streaming: Radios with wi-fi - called internet radios - often support music streaming services such as Spotify (may require subscriptions) However, the default alarm volume is quite high, so it’s not the most relaxing way to wake up. If loud music doesn’t bother you this isn’t a problem, but if you prefer to wake up gently you might want to choose the Pure Siesta Rise instead, as the alarm volume on that radio increases gradually. Since you can only set 2 presets on DAB and 2 on FM, this can make changing the radio station you want to wake up to a bit fiddly (the easiest thing is just to tune into it first before setting the alarm). Brand: Established brands such as Pure and Roberts tend to be more reliable, but also more expensive. If you don’t mind trying a less well-known brand, there are some good radios from budget brands such as Majority and AZATOM that offer great value for money.

You can choose when the alarm will sound (once/daily/weekdays/weekends), and can also choose the volume of the alarm. Since there are two alarms, you can set one alarm for weekdays and another at a different time for weekends. Compact dimensions & quality finish: Roxel Nod is built inside a wooden housing that compliments the looks and the sound of this little beast, measuring 165mm x 95mm x 92mm, it’s the perfect size for any room in your home. It can easily fit on a bookshelf, desk, or bedside table without taking up too much space. Not only is it space-saving, but it also has a modern and stylish design that will complement any decor. When shopping for the Ortus DAB Charge be sure to buy the version with DAB rather than the cheaper Ortus Charge which only has FM radio. Sound quality

How to Choose a DAB Radio Alarm Clock

This radio is a great size for a bedside table, and the time is shown in large digits. It doesn’t have any advanced features such as Bluetooth or USB ports for charging devices, but it’s a good basic DAB radio for the bedroom.

Each alarm has its own button, which makes it a bit simpler than on the AZATOM Horizon, where both alarms use the same button. You can also choose the volume of the alarm. The alarm will start out quiet and gradually get louder, so it won’t startle you when you wake up.

Best DAB Radio Alarm Clocks

The user guide is a single sheet of paper as is more often the case with DAB radios now. While not the normal type of manual we are used to with older Roberts radios the instructions are easy enough to follow. The text is clear and the included diagrams are useful. This is especially helpful for setting alarms. For some more ultra-cheap DAB radios, see our overview of the cheapest digital radios on the market. These include cheap digital radios as well as more premium options. Some of these radios also have Bluetooth, so you can connect them to your phone to stream music or podcasts. The Roxel Nod is an all in one bedside hub with large display: Roxel Nod features a dual display. The LED display shows the time, while the LCD display shows the station, volume and date, this way you can have all the information you need right at your fingertips. Roxel Nod’s clear, large digit easy to read display is fully adjustable with 3 levels of brightness so you can always be sure to see the time. You can stream your music via BT, wake up to your favourite station or simply use it for charging your phone. A single speaker is included on the underside of the Roberts Ortus DAB Charge. Due to the wireless charging pad and the design of the radio this is the only surface where the speaker can be placed.
