The CeraVe AM Facial Moisturising Lotion is a lightweight moisturiser that’s designed to provide all day hydration to the skin whilst strengthening the skin barrier. It’s non comedogenic, so it won’t clog the pores, and is suitable for both dry skin and acne sufferers. The active ingredients in this cream include hyaluronic Acid, ceramides, and niacinamide. Niacinamide is known to help smooth fine lines, and reduce uneven skin tone and large pores. Eucerin is a much older brand compared with CeraVe. It started in a pharmacy in Hamburg, Germany in 1882 when a pharmacist started making medical dressings. First step - Before showering, dry brush problem areas, do this every day. CeraVe by comparison is a much more recent brand. It was founded in 2005 by dermatologists who recognised that patients with conditions such as acne, eczema, and psoriasis all had a compromised skin barrier. The best choice for eczema sufferers would be the CeraVe Moisturising Lotion since it has the seal of acceptance from the National Eczema Association. The formula contains hyaluronic acid which helps to hydrate the skin, and ceramides to protect the skin barrier. This is a great option if you want a daily lotion that’s light and won’t leave any greasy residue. It can be used as a facial lotion, or on the entire body. Since it contains lactic acid and urea in the ingredient list it may not be suitable for eczema prone or very sensitive skin. The Eucerin moisturizer also does not contain a sunscreen, so would not be suitable to wear outdoors all day. We can see that both brands use the same key ingredients in their night creams as they have in their day creams. Although both products are designed for dry skin, the CeraVe PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion has an oil free, non comedogenic formula and won’t cause acne flare ups. It would work well on both dry and oily skin. The Eucerin night cream however, is not oil free since it contains castor oil. Second step - Use the detoxifying charcoal scrub on problem areas while showering. In addition to the scrub, I use an exfoliating sponge to really scrub it in.Both products are a great choice if you want a lighter weight cream to combat dryness. If you have eczema, CeraVe has the slight edge over Eucerin since the CeraVe lotion is free from all ingredients that could inflame eczema.
