About this deal

I have used these boots in cool (20°F) snowy and windy conditions, with microspikes and snowshoes, and in warm, summer-like humid conditions (90°F) The warmest hike was cut a bit short due to heat and bugs, but after 90 minutes or so, though my feet felt warm, it was intolerable. I rarely hike in very hot conditions, but I think this boot is lightweight enough, and has adequate ventilation, that it should be a good warm weather hiker. This makes the Expeditor Ridge 2.0 the best value walking boots on the list, despite this they’re still well-built using quality leather and solid stitching all over and the weight is kept to a low 1020g a pair. Water Resistance: Keen reports that the boots are made waterproof without the use of PFCs (Perflourinated Chemicals), which are commonly used to provide water repellency on outdoor products. Keen, aware that these PFCs are suspected carcinogens, has switched to an "alternative chemistry" which they claim is safer, without sacrificing performance. This includes the use of Keen.Dry, a proprietary waterproof, breathable membrane that lets vapor out without letting water in. Waterproof boots are essential for spring hiking! The Terradora II has a stability shank designed to provide additional stability, and to help the boot maintain its stability and shape over time and wear. The shank in the Terradora is constructed of a lightweight nylon, adding minimal weight to the boot.

Over the last couple of years here at Outdoors Magic, we’ve all definitely noticed a big stepping up of Keen’s efforts to lower their environmental impact. There’s still plenty of work to do, but at least they’re doing something. In the case of this boot, they’ve made sure that no PFCs are used as part of its water repellency and with the anti-odour treatment on the inside, that all works by naturally breaking down odour in sweat without the use of heavy metals or hazardous chemicals. Conclusion Like the original Terradora, the Terradora II also comes as a shoe if you want something slightly more casual. Trade Secrets We can see why these are some of Scarpa’s bestselling boots, they’re lovely in most regards for general walking duties as long as you don’t push them too hard. They’re also at a great price point compared to other leather boots on the market, and with Scarpa heritage and build quality behind them that makes them a bargain. For anyone who’s looking for a boot for light hikes during the summer, this, we’d say, would be a good option to bank on.” If you don’t do the laces up too tight this high top is comfortable, as is the rest of the boot, much like a pair of well-worn daps but there isn’t a lot of stiffness to the Salado High, giving a lot of trail feel – good in some ways bad in others. This allows you to really feel the ground beneath you but also leads to sore feet over long countryside walks, this would of course be a different story over smooth sand dunes.First things first, this is a boot that’s specifically designed for women. What that means is that it’s built around a last (or a model of a foot) based on the average shape of a woman’s foot.

They also look great which means they make perfect travel footwear when you want to minimise your luggage burden. As soon as the Rush TRK walking boots are attached to your feet you know you’re in for a treat. They’re lightweight but aren’t at all sloppy, in fact, a little wearing in is needed but it’s worth it for the stability you feel on the trail. Typically, lightweight walking boots are more comfortable to walk in than their heavier equivalents and the best will still offer a mix of durability and performance for regular hiking.

Fits like a glove is the first thing that comes to mind when you slip your feet into Hanwag’s Banks boots. Hanwag’s Belorado II Mid boots are narrow walking boots with a precise fit, best suited to those with narrow, low volume feet. Inside, they feel impeccably made with a smooth, seamless feel and superb walking comfort coupled with generous helpings of reassuring German build quality. The 1100g weight (per pair) is impressive considering the high levels of performance and durability on offer. The carefully considered shape works perfectly for demanding walkers, making the Banks GTX a joy in all situations.
