About this deal

There is a large range of sporting activities that promote a healthy lifestyle, withclasses allowing for different age groups and abilities. Anyone using the parking facilities does so at their own risk. You are strongly advised to move your vehicle before 6pm. Get involved Markfield has two public houses, the Queens Head and the Bulls Head. The Coach and Horses, whilst within Markfield parish, is in the village of Fieldhead. Markfield has Chinese and Indian takeaways, a fish and chip shop, a newsagent, an independent shop selling organic produce, a Co-Operative Supermarket, a hardware shop, a financial advisory office, a GP surgery, a chemist, a Londis supermarket, a post office, a new library and a cafe. There are also several hair-dressing salons and an industrial estate. The former public house known as the Red Lion has reopened as an Indian restaurant. The George public house as shown in the photograph was previously named 'The Boot. The village has a well-funded and run Community Centre built in 1985 which has replaced the old Markfield Memorial Miners Institute as the main community building in the village. There is a Travelodge hotel located on the A50; Granada turned the Granada Lodge into a Travelodge, and the Country Kitchen Restaurant into an AJ's, which later became Little Chef History, albeit still with green AJ's fittings. A Burger King was added to the Little Chef. The petrol station changed from Mobil to BP. Prominent 'Granada' branding was provided at the entrance.

With the support of the Parish Council the Association will continue to run the Mayflower Clubs at the community centre and continue to co-ordinate the successful Markfield Good Neighbours Scheme. This partnership will also assist in our endeavours to support local health and well-being initiatives. Facilities: The centre offers a large hall with small kitchen area, access for people with disabilities and young children. Hall can be used for meetings, training, exhibitions, etc. Facilities: Markfield is an historic building at the heart of Tottenham’s Markfield Park. The community hub can be hired for birthday parties, corporate away days, meetings, training sessions or exercise classes! The main building had a simple cross-shape with a Country Kitchen Restaurant, shop and toilets: simple facilities that catered for passing traffic and, thanks to the adjacent Granada Lodge, overnight stays. The restaurant was open all night and encouraged locals to visit it for Sunday lunch. The petrol station next door was branded Mobil, and there were dedicated parking areas for cars, HGVs and coaches. We continue to run the Mayflower Club, continue to support the excellent Markfield Good Neighbours Scheme and wherever possible other local community groups. For young families, nearby Yardley Lane Primary School is within catchment and is Ofsted rated 'Outstanding'

In 1999, there was a plan to build another stand-alone restaurant in the car park. The proposal didn't seem to be thought out in detail, but could have held a combination of retail and takeaway food, probably under the Fresh Express name. In 2005 Moto stated that this was still a long-term ambition, although ultimately it didn't happen. This leaves Travelodge as the only occupant of the service area, and their oversized car park is used for makeshift HGV parking, seeing as no actual HGV facilities are provided. The majority of the land is becoming overgrown, with plenty of dilapidated Granada memorabilia. The official "Services" signage remains on the A511, but somebody has been along and covered up the fuel symbols. The signs still promise the restaurant that closed many years ago. The name 'Leicester' would go on to cause confusion, as it isn't really near Leicester. Road signs provided on the A511 begrudgingly called it "Leicester Markfield services" as they told traffic to turn around to access it. Granada themselves usually called it "Leicester (Markfield)". The Parish Council have said, “Your Parish Council is committed to the community we serve, we will be working hard to secure the future of your community centre and sports centre with our many partners”. Markfield has close links with the Methodist movement and according to a blue plaque on the church, its founder John Wesley paid 13 visits. He was allowed to preach in the parish church as he was friendly with the rector but crowds became so large, he would often preach on the village green. The parish church of St Michaels and all Angels is a grade II listed building. [5] There are two other churches, Holy Trinity Methodist chapel and the Congregational church but the original Methodist chapel (temperance hall) is no longer used. After many years of running Markfield Community and Sports Centre, the charity, Markfield Community Association has handed over the reins to Markfield Parish Council. The Markfield Project was established in 1979 by parents of disabled children. It’s an inclusive space for disabled and non-disabled children to play. This change will not be easy but we can do it together in partnership and with the help of local agencies, community groups and of course, most importantly you our community.

Markfield Gardens is a quiet no through road towards the bottom of Kings Head Hill. If you lived here, you are within walking distance from the shops and amenities of North Chingford's Station Road and Chingford Station with its links to the Victoria Line at Walthamstow Central (15 mins) and London's Liverpool Street (25 mins) and because it's the end of the line, you'll nearly always get a seat. The association spokesperson said, “We sincerely wish the Parish Council every success in this new endeavour and TOGETHER WE CAN DO IT”.The association are delighted that the Parish Council is committed to keeping the Community Centre running for the use of our residents. We all believe that it is time to enhance our relationship and work in partnership to have in place and develop the Community Centre into a facility our village deserves. Facilities: The Centre offers community based activities such as a youth club, sawing and knitting club, and afternoon tea parties. We also offer hall hire at competitive prices for private functions (meetings, workshops, birthday parties), and have access facilities for disabled people.
