Nikon's WT wireless transmitters enable fast transmission of images – either automatically or by manual selection – direct from your camera to an FTP server or computer, and they also allow you to import IPTC photo metadata into the camera's memory before shooting, so the data is automatically attached to images as they're shot. This saves critical time for editors as well as photographers. They also enable a number of other useful functions, including camera operation from a computer via Camera Control Pro 2, and simultaneous release of multiple remote cameras from one master camera, depending on which WT transmitter you use. Use a cable release or remote cord such as the 10-pin connector type MC-30/MC-30A or MC-36/MC-36A; or the MC-DC2 remote cord, which utilizes the accessory terminal on select cameras. This tethers you to the camera, but, depending upon the length of the cord, you can be anywhere from 1 - 12 feet from the camera when you take the shot. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth triggers harness the power of your smart device for even more comprehensive remote camera control. This new Mini version does exactly the same (though it’s no longer capable of Windows and Mac connectivity), and is around half the size of the original. Remote range is increased to 120m, however battery life is slightly reduced at 3-4 hours.

While the mirror is raised, photos can not be framed in the viewfinder and autofocus and metering will not be performed.

Connecting the camera to an FTP server

I am sorry, and maybe that's a stupid question and I would be grateful if someone explains this to me: Camera remotes have all sorts of use cases. Physically pressing the shutter button can cause tiny vibrations in the body, which can compromise an image in situations where focusing is extremely precise, such as macro photography, or in situations where an image can be affected by motion blur, like long exposures. Being able to trigger a camera remotely also lets you move away if you want to avoid casting a shadow, or helps you keep a distance from skittish wildlife.
