The Evangelists’ allusions to the Old Testament are characteristically “metaleptic”: “that is, they nudge the discerning reader to recognize and recover the context from which the intertextual references are drawn” (107).

Hays’s method is both straightforward and controversial. He supports his twofold thesis by walking the reader through each of the four Gospels, showing how numerous passages in each Gospel are indebted to texts and themes from the Old Testament. While readers may not be convinced that every example displays this reliance on the specific Old Testament passages that Hays identifies, the cumulative effect of seeing one example after another is impressive and helps demonstrate the potential of Hays’s thesis. 1 Reading is the process of looking at written symbols and letters and understanding the meaning of them. It's one of the four main language skills alongside listening, speaking and writing. Reading is usually the third language skill that you learn in your language - it comes after listening and speaking. In 2022/23 average attainment of pupils in Welsh reading was lower than it was in 2020-21, equivalent to 11 months’ lower attainment. If you’ve followed the other tips in this article, perhaps you’ve already fixed some errors in your work. If so, well done: each correction is a small victory. He added that: “Neither schools nor local authorities need to make any changes as a result of the publication of this national report” and instead it would be used as a way to help learners, inform policy-making and future research.

This assessment was introduced in the 2018/19 academic year and is the only assessment for which data is available both before and after the pandemic.
