CA is very well controlled in the Tamron 70-300 VC, with only a small amount of CA apparent in full frame corners. Chromatic aberration is noticeable at the longer focal lengths and in the corners, but is no issue at shorter focal lengths and in the center. The big problem of my copy is strong purple fringing at high contrast edges. Just one other reviewer noted this in this forum, so I assume that this could be a specific problem of my copy. I did not notice any distortion, vignetting or flare that is worth mentioning. Build-quality is acceptable for amateur-use. Focusing is slow at times but always accurate and I noticed occasional hunting at low-light. The Tamron 70-300 VC will work best in this regard when shooting a subject that remains a near-constant distance from the camera under a healthy level of daylight. Much more problematic is the inconsistent focus accuracy I'm experiencing from the Tamron 70-300 VC. Our used products are subject to wear and tear in comparison to brand new products. This also applies to accessories that are supplied with the camera including batteries which may have a lower optimum performance level/life expectancy.

The difference in image quality between the 70-300 L and the Tamron 70-300 VC is readily apparent in the results. Tamron’s new 70-300mm F4.5-6.3 is compatible with many of the advanced features that are specific to certain mirrorless cameras. These include the following: Corner shading is virtually non-existent when the lens is mounted on the sub-frame 7D. On the 1Ds Mark III however, it's a different story: you have to stop down significantly to get images which don't show some kind of light falloff in the corners. At its worst, you're looking at extreme corners which are almost a full stop darker than the center - you see this at 100mm and 135mm when used wide open. To remove the impact of corner shading you need to stop down to at least ƒ/8. This lens is very lightweight, but without feeling flimsy. The fit and finish of the materials used is good and a metal lens mount has been used, which will stand up to many lens changes.Tamron's 70-300mm gave quite pleasantly surprising results during testing. At f/4 and 70mm, the centre resolution is already very good and stopping down to f/8 raises the resolution to excellent levels. Above: Nikon Z 100-400mm f4.5-5.6 VR S coverage on a full-frame camera at 100mm (left) and 400mm (right) missing some shots and after 2 weeks it broke down for good and wouldn't focus at all i got it repaired I actually view this as a positive attribute as it forces proper use of hood (I see hoods used in reverse position FAR too often). The Tamron has modestly less flare, less barrel distortion at 70mm and modestly less pincushion distortion at 300mm.

To make use of the Macro function, the zoom first needs to be set between 180mm and 300mm, which is marked with a gold stripe. Than the switch on the body of the lens can be switched to macro, which is also gold coloured. Once this action has been completed, you're free to use the extended close-focus range indicated by another gold stripe. This process takes a bit of getting used to, but once you do it's fairly straightforward switching between normal and macro focusing. With their deeper DOF (Depth of Field) with identical framing, APS-C camera bodies will not show the focus errors as readily as full frame bodies. The lens is quite sharp till about 200mm and then things get soft when shooting at 300mm i usually use f8 We haven't yet tested Sony's direct competition - it doesn't offer image stabilization because Sony dSLR cameras offer in-body stabilization instead. It does offer SSM focusing. Today, I’m reviewing the Tamron 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD, a full-frame mirrorless lens available for Sony E and Nikon Z mounts. I’ve used this lens extensively in the field over the past few months, and I’ve also brought it into our lab for extensive tests. Want to see how the Tamron 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3 holds up? Read on to find out! The Tamron 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3

The Canon lens most comparable to the Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di VC USD Lens is the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens. APS-C (1.6x FOVCF) body users will not likely notice any vignetting except perhaps in the 300mm corners. Also, the process for engaging and disengaging the macro function is fiddly and needs some practice to be used comfortably. Mounted on the full-frame Canon 1Ds Mark III, the lens doesn't betray any secrets - it's just a little bit softer at wide apertures. Otherwise it's mostly the same story as above - stop down to ƒ/8 to get maximum sharpness, and don't expect anything overly sharp at 200mm or 300mm.

Focus breathing (image changes size when focusing) is noticeable at the wide end, but far less apparent to me at 300mm. The larger pixels of our full-frame Canon EOS-5D test bed make for somewhat better blur performance. We were surprised by how well the lens did in the corners of the frame, where we often see increased softness at the edges of a lens' image circle. A surprisingly good performance, as long as your camera's pixels are large enough. Among 300mm-capable telephoto zoom lenses for full-frame mirrorless cameras (As of August, 2022: TAMRON) another big downside of the lens it has massive color fringing in harsh contrast situations especially Tamron has adopted a dedicated design for mirrorless cameras and achieved a compact size once again by fixing the aperture at F/6.3 at the telephoto end. The maximum diameter is 77mm. Measuring just 148mm and weighing a mere 545g, this 70-300mm F/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD is the world’s smallest and lightest telephoto zoom lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras. Compatible with Sony’s popular E-mount cameras, it has been developed with the concept of enabling photographers to more easily experience the universe of full-scale, full-frame 300mm telephoto photography.
