About this deal

The biggest was the tongue of the boot sliding to either side. Because of this, for some folks, the leather rubs against their shin uncomfortably. I also considered brandy and Arizona adobe, but brown seemed like the safest choice in terms of wearability. Thursday Boots Captain Sizing Durability depends a lot on factors like: how much you wear your boots, how much you weigh, what sort of climate you live in, etc. After a couple of weeks of wear, my shoes did indeed develop character and light creases and began to look well loved, while certainly remaining handsome enough for more dressed up wear. Again, this is particular to the Brown leather; many of their leathers, like the Terracotta in the video above, are better suited for casual wear and dramatic patina. This leatherages just right: they got character, but not scars. My feet are about 4.5 inches at their widest point. My daily wear is usually Skechers short boots size 10.5 with their memory foam thing, or New Balance dad shoes in size 11.

The first difference is indeed that toe cap. Every version of the Captain boot has a few lines of stitching over the toe break. Some Thursday Boots can be worn in the snow, but the Thursday Captain boot is not a snow boot. Why Are They Called Thursday Boots? Also, you’ll lose any foot races you take part in. For whatever reason, I’ve challenged three of my friends to races in the past year and a half, and I was wearing these boots all three times. These boots have a minor break in period, but definitely not the worst I’ve experienced. After two weeks, they fit like a glove and the heel slip disappeared. Thursdays new Kingmaker last (Arizona Adobe leather) You can find the Captain in standard D widths, or if you have wide feet, the brand also offers several leather choices in EE/EEE wide widths.

The Captains really are a true goodyear welt boot, and feel slightly heavier and more substantial as a result. For a lot of guys, that often entails wearing the hell out of ’em until they soften and start to adapt to the shape of your feet. After the outsole there’s a cork-bed midsole, an anti-fatigue steel shank for arch support, soft leather lining on the inside, and their secret sauce: the “Dura EVA” comfort strip. This is the key to Thursday’s famous comfort. Often used in athletic shoes, the EVA comfort strip has been updated and upgraded many times throughout several iterations of their boots. Today it’s called a custom made Dura EVA comfort strip, which Thursday says has a bit more bounce than older models.

The real test of their quality will come months or even years from now, as I see how well the boots hold up over time.

Long-Term Thinking

It’s worth emphasizing that it isn’t, as I incorrectly noted in the video above, another strip of leather. In boots like the Red Wing Iron Ranger, another layer of leather is added on top of the end of the boot to offer a little more protection, however the Captain’s toecap is two pieces of leather stitched together, as opposed to on top of one another. I wouldn’t really emphasize the protectiveness, but this does add a bit more structure to the toe. Toe caps can also sometimes make small feet look smaller, so if that’s a concern then you might want to consider the plain toe President. With a Goodyear welted boot, you can resole it as many times as you want, which means that your boots technically could last you a lifetime if you really wanted to spare the expense of several recrafts. This is my YouTube review of the Thursday Captain after I had them for 4 years. I’ve since recrafted them (video down below) Things to Consider Before Buying Thursday’s Captain Boot The Thursday Captain is a cap-toe service boot. At the time of writing, Thursday offers 16 different leather options (if you include the Storm King sole options as well). My Thursday Captain Storm King in Tobacco leather The Captain’s cons are not necessarily factors that make it a bad boot. The cons on this list are more akin to trade-offs that you get for benefitting from another aspect of the boot’s value.

The Captain is Thursday’s most popular boot, and it’s also one of the most versatile options. In the video above, you can see five different ways of styling them, but I’ll also post more examples below. Thursday launched their company in 2014 with three boots: the Captain, the President, and the Diplomat. Don’t just box yourself in with jeans, though. The beauty of Thursday boots is that you can wear just about any style of pants. The Vanguard is available in three Chromexcels: a brown French Roast, a burgundy Color 8, and an exclusive Indigothat Horween produces just for Thursday Boot Company. Speed hooks — where there are hooks instead of eyelets — let you speedily lace up the boots, and for many guys they’re actually a priority. These boots have a DuraEVA Comfort strip, which is usually only found in athletic shoes. I’m a fan of the comfort strip, and I’ve found that these are much softer on the soles of my feet when compared to other boots without the Dura EVA comfort strip.

The Thursday Boot Co. Captain and President are virtually the same boot. The “big” difference between these two models is the design of the toe box. The Captain is a cap toe boot, hence the name. The President is a plain toe boot. As for me, I’ve been wearing these boots several times a week for over five years. Even when they were soaked through in a snowstorm and had to be dried next to the fireplace ( really tough on leather) these held up. The sole held up for four years for me, and then I took them to a cobbler and had a new sole put on. The Thursday Captain is the brand’s most popular boot, and you’ll find the largest variety of sizes and leather options here. One nice thing about cap-toe service boots with a sharp toe shape is that they’re extremely versatile, so there are a ton of different ways you can wear them. Thursday Boots are definitely durable. My first pair of Thursday Captain boots lasted four years before I resoled them, and I’ve had them for an additional year since then. They’re still going strong. Sure, those studs might not be quite as “classic” as a smooth leather sole, but it’s grippier while remaining pretty low profile. One other thing all of these vloggers kept mentioning was how Thursday Boot Co.’s direct-to-consumer model allowed them to offer good quality products at a great price point. While I’ve worn the sh*t out of these things over the past few weeks, the real test will be whether they perform as well over the long haul.
