About this deal

Switching to Sennheiser HD300 meant there was more power than you ever wanted. In high gain, I could get the headphone to produce superb bass response that rattles your skull like you have your head in a drum set! All in all, L30 covers our hearing range in full and even more, it simply extends from bottom to top and that is perfect by my standards. With high output voltage, high current, and low output impedance, the L30 II can power any kind of headphone. It easily drives power-hungry planar magnetics, highly-sensitive IEMs, and everything in between. Any item returned must be complete with all accessories, hardware, manuals, or instructions, and in the same "new" condition as when it was when shipped to you. Please send us photos or videos of it.

Topping Electronics & Technology, known as ‘TOPPING’, is based in Guangzhou, China, and was established in 2008. They design some of the best DACs and AMPs when it comes to the price-to-performance ratio. They have a dedicated R&D team of skilled engineers and audiophiles. In addition to that, they are heavily invested in the latest audio testing machinery such as the APx555 from Audio Precision. Of course, all of this means one thing for us consumers, better devices! However, once set up, if you are like me, the DAC will sit unmolested, with nothing more than on/off required. And meant to be used with the E30 II in mind, there is a lone pair of RCA inputs in the rear which is the only way to pass the signal to the L30 II as a single-ended only device. The original €1900 Euforia still gives you great value, performance, and musicality and if your budget doesn’t extend AE far, this still is a highly recommended amplifier. The AE, however, blows it away on all fronts with improvements everywhere. The E30 II is a capable little DAC, with a bold orange display you will likely love or hate, featuring preamp functionality and a basic remote. The remote is a blessing for set up, as the single, near-invisible touchscreen button would be far better served by a pair of physical buttons.Output power was halved, but at 3.5 Watts in 16 Ohms and about 280mW in 300 Ohms, plus a voltage swing of 26 V peak-to-peak, L30 feels more like Goliath than like a David to me. Output impedance is impressively low, at just 0.1 Ohms, you can be sure that damping factor is unaffected at all and you can basically drive highest sensitivity headphones with great results. Zen CAN on kuvassa iFi:n laitteista ylimmäinen, kun taas sen alapuolella olevaa Zen DAC:ia käytin D/A-muuntimena vertailuissani.

The Spark is most similar to the Heresy in shape but is a bit more stylized with sloped edges rather than simply being a box like the other three. Color is a gunmetal grey only. AP measured noise level (A-wt): Low gain: <0.7 uVrms, Medium gain: <0.7 uVrms, High gain: <1.5 uVrmsThe build quality of the device is also very good and feels solid, as we are used to from Topping. The optical and coaxial inputs and the RCA output support are also nice little details. Breathe new life into your digital turntable, disk player, and game console. Plug them into the optical and coaxial inputs and enjoy 24-bit/192kHz audio. As its bigger brother, L30 is a speedy sounding amplifier and that is a natural phenomenon when noise is going out of the picture and nothing stays in the way of the audio signal. L30 can be also considered as a sleeper type headphone amp – its small and it will lower your expectations once you look at it, but after pressing play, keep your hands on the chair handles, close your eyes and prepare for a fast ride. L30 is a fast puncher, with notes decaying in the same fashion, but don’t expect a world class slam in the ear-drums, as for that more brute force and output power will be needed. Switching between DSD to PCM in DAC mode, a small audible digital pop noise may bother some listeners. This isn’t unusual, however, and I’ve noticed it on quite a few DACs.

SINAD ( Signal to Noise And Distortion) kuvaa laitteen signaali-kohina- ja särösuhdetta. Sen avulla voidaan kertoa, kuinka suuri osa signaalista on toivottua ääntä ja kuinka paljon mukana on kohinaa ja säröä. Vaikka laitteiden suorituskykyä voidaan mitata useilla muillakin eri tavoilla, Audio Science Review (ASR) -sivuston popularisoima laitteiden asettaminen paremmuusjärjestykseen SINAD:n perusteella on nykyään varsin suosittua. Otin SINAD:n puheeksi juuri tässä arvostelussa, koska sen osalta 150 euron hintainen Topping L30 II ( linkki valmistajan tuotesivulle) pärjäsi ASR:n testeissä todella hyvin. SINAD:n perusteella laitetta voitaisiin itseasiassa kutsua maailman parhaaksi kuulokevahvistimeksi, eikä tilanne ole käsittääkseni sittemmin muuttunut. After three days of listening, I am having absolutely the same feelings I’ve had with Topping A90, with Benchmark HPA4 and with Sparkos Labs Aries. L30 is a colorless amplifier type, that is not adding anything into the mix and doesn’t withdraw anything from there as well. All those entry level THX-based amplifiers are more or less the same, with the exception that those are having a drier midrange with a less emotional performance. NFCA amps, including the L30 are more natural sounding, especially the midrange feels a bit fuller, meatier and much closer to a real performance. I’ve grown-up listening to a lot of recordings of my father, like The Beatles, Deep Purple, Scorpions and Queen, that were listened and re-listened hundreds of times. If there would be a deviation in their tonality, I would spot that right away. Bottom line is that L30 follows the footsteps of A90 by offering a super clean sound, without leaning towards a clinical side, L30 is still natural and engaging sounding, unlike entry-level THD designs. I’m actually very surprised by the performance I am hearing out of the little guy. At the other end of the spectrum, the Topping L30 was able to take anything I threw at it. The L30 was able to power all my headphones, including my Sennheiser HD600, and my MrSpeakers Aeon Flow Closed with some power to spare. The soundstage on the L30 slightly narrow, but does not end up feeling closed in. There’s no wall at the end of the sound, but the sound seems to just end quite near the head. With good detail retrieval, my headphones were able to create a strikingly tangible image with the L30 in the system

Sound Impressions

The amp and dac both look very well built. They are made of aluminium and have a very premium finish. The front is covered in some acrylic glass that looks very modern and exclusive. Impressive overall. What I’m noticing though is the vivid placement of images that seem deliberately rigid sounding rather than natural or free floating. It’s a minor observation that I wouldn’t even call a concern since I generally get good amounts of isolation with only some hints of smearing from time to time.
