About this deal

But where this really wins the day for me is the finish, which is medium in length with those dreamy lemon peel tones. Moving onto sweeter spirits, and super‐ premium liqueur Tobago Gold grabbed the Master award. Athavia found this to be “super nostalgic, with so much milk malt – delicious”. In addition, Lemon Brothers’ Limoncello collected a Gold medal in the ultra‐premium liqueur heat, thanks to its “great concentration of flavour”. Now here’s an eye-catching gin. Stoli Group’s Tulchan Gin hit shelves last summer and while the gin may be London dry, the bottle is all Scotland. Made from a royal blue glass, a la Bombay Saphire, it’s stamped along the side with the official Tulchan tartan in tribute to the Speyside estate for which it’s named. The label features the Tulchan mascot, a hilarious yet very dignified Grouse Piper playing bagpipes, and the heavy wooden and metal topper sports a Scottish thistle stamp (whatever that is). As for what’s inside the bottle, Stoli Group has the deets:

Gin isn't just from England and the U.S. Distilleries all over the world produce versions that try to capture the character of where they're made. There are three main categories. Distilled gin is produced from a mash of grains in the same way that whiskey might be. Redistilled gin is a neutral grain spirit that has been distilled a second time. And compound gin is a neutral grain spirit that’s been infused with flavors (this is the least common style). While you can use nearly any botanical you can think of to flavor gin, juniper is the key ingredient. There are two ways to infuse the botanical flavors into gin—either by macerating them in the spirit, or suspending them in what is essentially a large tea bag above the spirit and infusing the gin with vapors. Then there are a few different styles of gin to consider. I wanted to feature the gin in a few classic serves to match the traditional feel of the brand. These are great, easy-to-mix recipes to enjoy before you reach for that Speyside dram. Tulchan G&T Beyond typically luxurious spirits such as Scotch and Cognac, drinkers are also seeking to swap to other premium categories that are more affordable, particularly as consumers deal with rising prices and a recession looms.

In the Tequila: Añejo – Ultra Premium heat, two Gold medals were awarded to “deliciously earthy and spicy” El Mayor Tequila Añejo and “elegant and vibrant” Tequila Aman El Profesor Añejo. Agave-based spirits such as Tequila and mezcal were among some of the award winners Silent Pool Gin was enjoyed for “bold juniper” on the palate, “with some dark cocoa bitterness, and nice citrus notes to balance”. Tulchan Gin had a “lovely aroma, with citrus and lychees”. The texture was described as “mouth‐coating and luxurious, with slight floral and herbaceous notes on the palate”. Eight Lands Gin had a “lovely bright, classic juniper aroma” with “fruity red berries” on the palate and “some sweet lemon citrus”.

This is absolutely within my top three gins of all time. It is sublime. In fact, I’ve had the pleasure of a guided tour around the distillery, which it has to be said, is a special place. Capreolus Distillery founder Barney Wilczak said: “AKER is such an exciting project; the creation of a vermouth that elegantly connects us to the essence of the British countryside is something so incredibly special.” Eight Lands spirits are made using organic ingredients, including some botanicals that are sourced from the Glenrinnes estate.
