Knowing a laptop's screen size tells you a lot about its portability overall. If you want to use your computer on your lap or carry it around a lot, go for one with a 12, 13 or 14-inch display. If you want to use the computer on tables and desks and won't carry it around much, a 15-inch model may give you more value. Some gaming rigs, media machines and workstations even have 17 or 18-inch screens, but those are hardest to carry. Asus has done it again. They’ve changed the definition of what the best gaming laptop is. By itself, the Asus ROG Flow X13 is a compelling laptop. It’s very rare to see a 13-inch gaming laptop and even rarer for it to be a 2-in-1. But Asus didn’t stop there, they threw a high-powered AMD Ryzen 9 processor into the mix and even outfitted the notebook with its own discrete Nvidia GPU. These aren't beefed-up Android tablets—you're still buying a PC with a full operating system, whether that's ChromeOS or Windows. Apple, with its MacBooks,isn't a player in this category of laptop; Apple has doggedly pointed folks who need a touch screen and tablet/laptop convertibility toward its iOS-equipped iPad and iPad Pro lines, paired with an optional keyboard. Unless you only plan to use your laptop on your desk, battery life matters. Even within the home or office, having plenty of juice enables you to work on the couch or at the conference table, without being chained to the nearest outlet. When we ran the Handbrake video transcoding benchmark, the Plus transcoded a 4K video to 1080p in 8 minutes and 17 seconds, roasting the 9:47 category average. The MacBook Pro saw a time of 6:51. That is not too shabby for a mainstream laptop.. If you cancel you must return the goods to us at your own expense. You are responsible for the risk of loss or damage when you return the goods, so you should take out adequate postal insurance to cover their value. The XPS 13 2-in-1 is a more interesting entry than the previous editions due to the detachable change. It’s still similar to the mainline XPS 13—in part because that system became more tablet-like at the same time, not less—so the difference is really down to form factor. That may be what Dell had in mind with its three current offerings (this detachable, the XPS 13 clamshell, and the XPS 13 Plus), delivering the same general computing experience with a different external design. On its own, the XPS 13 2-in-1 presents capable results for general productivity as far as everyday home and office tasks. There’s no noticeable slowdown in general use, and you’ll be able to run a few applications and multiple tabs simultaneously. For the type of product this is, that’s really all you need.

A: It’s recommended that you use the included Thunderbolt 3 cable. If you need to use a different cable (due to loss etc.), then another Thunderbolt 3 cable would also be compatible. Unsurprisingly, graphics power is not a strong suit here. These slim and portable machines utilize only the integrated graphics processing built into the CPU rather than a discrete GPU, which has its clear limits. For what it’s worth, the M2 again shows up the other systems, but none is especially prepared for graphics-based applications or gaming. Battery and Display Tests Three other benchmarks focus on the CPU, using all available cores and threads, to rate a PC's suitability for processor-intensive workloads. Maxon's Cinebench R23 uses that company's Cinema 4D engine to render a complex scene, while Primate Labs' Geekbench 5.4 Pro simulates popular apps ranging from PDF rendering and speech recognition to machine learning. Finally, we use the open-source video transcoder HandBrake 1.4 to convert a 12-minute video clip from 4K to 1080p resolution (lower times are better). Outside of that, the XPS 13 2-in-1 includes some uncommonly high-end cameras. This includes a quite high-resolution, 2160p rear-facing camera, a right rarity in laptops. You can use it for recording the world like a giant smartphone, as some tend to do with iPads, and you may find the occasional use case for recording while propped up on the Folio stand. Its user-facing camera uses a 1080p sensor, which produces a sharper and clearer image than the many mediocre 720p webcams we still see on far too many modern laptops.
