Their 1981 LP ‘Juju’ had started a new era of the Siouxsie and the Banshees and after an extensive year of touring and the release of a non LP single “Fireworks” they entered Camden’s Playground Studios to record their new album with a now tried and fully tested line up. The resulting ‘A Kiss In The Dreamhouse’ was released on 5th of November 1982. The record marked a change of musical direction. Engineer Mike Hedges, who was interested in vocals, encouraged them to fiddle with the effects and put different effects and multi-layered on Siouxsie’s voice for the album. A Kiss in the Dreamhouse was the first album on which Siouxsie and the Banshees really exploited the possibilities of the studio and allowed themselves to be inspired by sounds. It is the fifth studio album by the band and was released on 5 November 1982 by Polydor Records.

Both a critical and commercial success, A Kiss in the Dreamhouse peaked at No. 11 on the UK Albums Chart. In their 2009 review of the reissued album, The Quietus wrote: "The result was their most colourful and – ahem – kaleidoscopic collection yet". [1] Critic Julian Marszalek commented that the album's music is "fundamentally pop, yet unafraid to revel in a quirkiness born of altered states. A deliberate shift from the overt darkness of its predecessor, Juju". The peaks on Dreamhouse are comparable to both Kaleidoscope and Juju - in particular the moody "Cascade" and the driving "Painted Bird". These are two winners that she and the band did well with both in live, demo, and in the final album product versions. The title of the album came to Severin after watching a programme about Hollywood prostitutes in the 1940s who had cosmetic surgery to look like stars, so they could get more clients.
