About this deal

ADAM guarantees gorgeous clarity and low distortion owing to new woofers and midrange drivers. There’s additionally the A Control software program that permits you to push advanced filters directly to an embedded platform onboard the monitors to compensate for room deficiencies. It was about time somebody gave monitor DSPs an honest go at operating user-customizable software programs. Were you to start adding extra speakers from the range (for instance to make a Dolby Atmos system in your studio), you’d definitely benefit from this extra level of system control. But for DJ/producers with just a stereo pair, it’s an awful lot of faff to save you nipping behind the speakers when initially setting them up to make adjustments. It would be neat if it were a phone app, and if the speakers could communicate via Bluetooth or Wifi with that app, Sonos Trueplay style. Sonarworks SoundID Reference filter set integration

Further control is available via the Voicing button. The Pure setting retains an accurate and authentic response for critical listening. The UNR (Uniform Natural Response) is ideal for casual listening with a more lively and colored profile. The final Ext option will override the onboard settings with external adaptation. The high-frequency response is the most contentious part of the range. X-ART tweeters are renowned for exceptional clarity and precision, which is the case here. Details are front and center with high clarity.

Rotatable HPS Waveguide & X-ART Tweeter

The build is robust, and surprisingly heavy for the size of the speakers. We find the design rather tasteful, with the iconic yellow tweeters. The A Series HPS Waveguide is made from a new glass fibre polymer compound that helps create a clear sound, free of unwanted resonance. The ADAM Audio X-ART tweeter is at the heart of the rotatable HPS waveguide. Handmade in Germany, the X-ART tweeter provides a precise transient response and reproduces the finest sonic details. This X-ART tweeter is used in every A Series speaker, providing a detailed, consistent sound across the product line

Dynamics/power capability was excellent. I could listen quite loud and most of the time not hear any distortion. When there was some, it was grittiness that set in quite gently. Considering that I listen to only one speaker, you should be in very good situation using them in desktop application (how I tested it). The same can be said for the Adam A4V but they have slightly more low end information, so you could potentially get away with not getting a sub right away. Who are the Adam Audio A4V best suited for? However, both sets of monitors are well worth the money. You can’t go wrong with either of them. Adam A4V vs. Focal Alpha 50 Evo Directivity is relatively consistent with smooth horizontal dispersion. Vertically it is on par with other two-way monitors, so expect a minor flub here and there. The ability to rotate the tweeter does grant you some flexibility to alter directivity, which is a bonus. The A Series of speakers have been designed to adapt to changing preferences, requirements and environments. An embedded platform from industry-leading company Sonarworks houses advanced filters used to aid the acoustics within a room and calibrate the speakers. Bass Reflex System, Cabinets and Mounting The Presence setting offers +1dB, 0dB, and -1dB. It doesn’t make a huge impact, but the -1dB setting is especially helpful for tiny studio spaces. Finally, the Treble option offers +1.5dB, 0dB, and -1.5dB. I have a hard time imagining the need for a treble boost, but the -1.5dB is an excellent option to tame the top end if you find it a little bright. The new, revamped A series took what was so popular about these distinctive boxes and brought them bang up to date. Available in a range of sizes from the compact three way A8H, the original new low-profile A44H and the replacement for the super-popular two way A7X, the A7V, down to the diminutive A4V. It was this smallest of the range I chose to audition for this first look at the range because while it isn’t the most impressive and probably won’t be the most popular, I suspect it might be the most important.

The A Series capitalizes on the transformative power of DSP-based electronics to provide greater tuning precision and better predictability than analogue-only speakers. With firmware that can be updated through an Ethernet connection, over time you can expect to integrate the latest DSP-based capabilities from ADAM Audio—including new filter types and features, plus alternative voicings The KH 80 and the the A4V are not only comparable in price, but in the quality of their performance as well. Both are nominally flat, and both are more ideal for smaller-sized studios.Likewise, if you like the customisation idea but not the complexity of the A Series approach, you may want to consider the IK Multimedia iLoud MTM speakers, which come with a microphone you can use to auto calibrate to your listening position in your studio, with no need for Ethernet, extra apps, or third-party software. (We’ve yet to review them at the time of writing, though – watch this space.) Conveniently, the tweeter may be rotated 90 degrees to permit the monitor to be used vertically and horizontally without sacrificing the advantages of the waveguide. Within the heart of this HPS waveguide is the so-called X-ART tweeter – handcrafted in Germany and with the assurance of most impulse responses and detail.
