About this deal

These are great. And again, they can be made to be semi-open or open cans quite easily. I can't speculate on the sound difference other than closed, but when I can I'll update this. Ever wanted to watch someone's mouth moving and not hear a word they're saying while listening to music? I can't even hear myself talking while music is playing at 70%. Can just barely hear a finger snap right outside the earcup at 70% (and I can snap loud). At 18dB of isolation, these cans are top of the line for the pricerange. And the fit is awesome. Regardless of your headsize. I've tested with heads other than mine and everyone says they're snug, and sealed. I'm relatively new to the scene and my wallet's already hurting! I've read posts on here for months so I think it's finally time I contribute something. This will be my first review, so let me know what you all think When the bass notes stop (even with the ports fully open) in the song, there is no residual muddiness - these headphones have sharp reflexes and have proven to be quite versatile when it comes to tolerating demanding songs like . Everything sounds exactly as it should be. The look of the COP's is meant to be one of the headphones selling points and they do have a distinctive look about them. The are not the best looking headphone but with the customisable plates and pads they can be made to look quite stylish. Beyerdynamic have released the COP's in several colours and my guess would be that they are trying to tempt the fashion headphone listening into buying something with a little more sound credibility. Maybe the most interesting area is the bass slider, which has 4 settings in theory though I often use the slider in between settings (I will go into more detail about the bass and the effect the slider has, later in the review).

Total harmonic distortion (THD) at 100 dBA is modest below 100 Hz, but there’s an unusual distortion peak at 70 Hz, which might be audible with certain material. Distortion below 100 Hz is pretty high in open mode, running between 7% and 20%. Isolation is typical for an over-ear design; using the closed mode improves isolation by about -15 dB between 150 and 400 Hz. The core design of the COP Plus is taken right from the DT770’s. In fact, you could interchange several parts between the two headphones. The COP Plus’s retain the metal ear forks, the spring steel headband, the adjustment mechanisms, and the big round ear cups. As I said above the COP's with the pleather pad does get exceptionally warm, even when listening to the headphones at home, my ears got hot. The headphone also clamps to the head quite tightly, and there was pressure placed on one area. The metal in the headband is stretchable though and by flexing the headphones, it will loosen the clamping pressure. The COP's can be fitted with the velour pads from the DT770 and this does make a dramatic difference, whilst there is still heat build up, it is much more manageable. The velour pads do take some time to soften though, to give decent comfort. In its original state and without any changed-out parts, the Custom One Pro Plus looks and feels extremely robust. Only the exposed cables from the headband to the auricle, which I’m already familiar with from other headphones from this manufacturer, seem a bit fragile. It’s as if it’s just waiting to be damaged during transport, or even when resting them on one of my headphone stands. Customisable for Rich Bass The first thing we noticed when unboxing these 'phones were that the cups are extremely large, even for a pair of over-ears. Though the Custom One's aren't overly heavy, they are big and bulky. It's clear that sturdiness and audio quality have been prioritised over portability here. I find myself EQ'ing on the fly with the bass ports every time I switch between genres, even between different maps on Battlefield - it makes that much of a difference and it makes listening to music effortless especially when multitasking. For those of us who like to tinker (we all do - who are we kidding) this is soooooo much fun! While I'm sure there are better headphones out there, these will keep me happy for quite some time. They're versatile enough to give me a sense of awe when I'm listening to music, and it's very difficult to quantify that. All four positions handle the middle and high ranges rather well…a little better than the DT770’s do, in fact! The mid range is natural, with a bit less of the withdrawn/scooped quality that the 770’s are infamous for.

decibels represents a doubling in the perceived loudness of a sound, so as you can see there’s quite a range of bass variability here. Beyerdynamic also decided to use a detachable cable for their latest release, quite the surprise! It is a 1.5m really flexible tangle free cable finished in a 3.5 mm plug with an adapter. There is no cable noise and I’m guessing the cable is OCC but the only info we got from Beyerdynamic was that it was made from PVC. It’s also mentioned like this on the box and made me smile. Headphone entry is on the left side and they used a standard 3.5 mm plug. I’ve read about an iCable being available as well but we didn’t receive it. The only bad thing about the cable is there is no fix like with the AIAIAI TMA where you have to turn it sideways (not ideal either). I would suggest not to disconnect your cable to often if you want it to stay in tight for a long period. The drivers are 16ohm(!!) units (5-35000Hz) and they state the driver membranes are one of the lightest in the world, making it really precise and delivering a rapid audio performance available from all kind of (portable) sources (pro and consumer). This is a closed headphone and should produce 18db attenuation, I found it to isolate very well and I couldn’t hear any sound leaking when a friend was auditioning them.

DesignThe Custom One Pro headphones are a chunky, pro-level pair geared towards studio use, but they'll work just fine for any music lover who prefers circumaural (over-the-ear), cushioned ear pads. The fit here is plush, comfortable, and secure—it's easy to see these being a solid studio headphone pair for both musicians and engineers. Sound leakage is not a real issue at rational listening levels, and they remain comfortable over long listening sessions. Gone is the bowling seat/instrument case material used for the DT770 ear cups. Most people won’t miss this… but uh, I like touching that plastic sometimes?

Position 4 pushes these all the way up into basshead territory, but without doing any significant damage to the midrange. This is great! The bass maintains the refined, luxurious, deep character that Beyerdynamic headphones are known for…there’s just more of it. The second key feature of the COP is the variable bass reflex system incorporated into the bottom of each cup. That is basically 4 individual bass port holes that are manually selected by pushing a small lever that covers the amount of holes from four down to one on each side and the headphone in turns adjusts its bass response to the hole you select. You have Light bass, Linear, Vibrant bass and Heavy bass. It takes a bit of getting used to in terms of having it on your head and making sure each cup has the right bass port selected because actually these do really work for me. You are encouraged to see it as four headphones in one or one headphone with four house signatures from analytical bass port one to basshead port 4. And I can assure you the difference between each port is quite evident. The CUSTOM ONE PRO PLUS is like its successful predecessor, the CUSTOM ONE PRO, a versatile headphones making listening to music interactive with a maximum of flexibility. It combines an extraordinary sound with many individually adjustable parameters and provides an all-in-one solution for almost every purpose in private applications, whether for listening to music when travelling or when using the stereo system at home, or gaming. The PLUS in the name stands for an extensive standard in design and comfort.

The tonality of the COP is more musical than accurate. The closed cup DT system with a bias to tuning lends itself well to modern pop and dance genres and probably less so with genres requiring delicate articulation and complex layering. This is a fun can, a bass head can but with the port system you can squeeze a little extra juice with some genres that regular fixed cans cannot really conquer or EQ can properly compensate for. DT lovers will certainly find some commonality switching to the COP with slightly thinned out mids great bass and more than adequate top end but don’t expect razor sharp imaging and sound stage. Build is just as solid and impressive as other Beyerdynamic products. They have an immediate feel of quality and heft that’s almost unmatched in this price range.I haven't had any problems with the highs. To me they sound quite nice and I haven't found them to be too bright, CUSTOM Style allows you to change the look of your headphones at any time. 16 included design covers are only the beginning. Furthermore you can choose from different optional rings, additional design covers, ear- and headband pads available from Beyerdynamic.
