About this deal

Biscuit maker McVitie’s has today announced the launch of a brand new advert to support its biggest product launch of the year – McVitie’s Digestives Nibbles. You may also opt to downgrade to Standard Digital, a robust journalistic offering that fulfils many user’s needs. Compare Standard and Premium Digital here. United Biscuits is taking McVitie’s into the sharing bag format with the launch of Digestives Nibbles.

In testing, consumers responded incredibly positively to the range, particularly the balanced combination of chocolate and biscuit. Alongside an equally positive response from customers, we are confident this is a long-awaited true innovation for the category.” McVities have not disappointed – having launched not one, not two, but THREE new flavours of their classic chocolate digestives. New digestive flavours include marmalade on toast. Image from Newfoodsuk. Fluffy little cakes made with brown sugar, to mimic that caramelised but wholesome Digestive taste, using a little wholemeal flour can help with this too! The cakes are swirled with some wonderfully fluffy chocolate buttercream frosting, flavoured only with some regular cocoa powder rather than made too rich with melted chocolate. On top, you’ll find either some crumbled shards of Chocolate Digestive or a few inviting chocolatey bites of Chocolate Digestive Nibbles. The Nibbles are great because they don’t go soft in the frosting over time like the regular Chocolate Digestives can, also they have a higher chocolate-to-biscuit ratio, which makes me happy. They were developed specifically for the UK market - although may launch more widely in future - and are produced in Turkey at Yildiz Holding facilities. Break new ground Here we have very similar looking bite size biscuits except these are milk chocolate coated biscuit balls with caramel flavour cream. I’ll be honest I’m not a fan of the standard Digestive Caramel Biscuits, I find them far too chewy, but these nibbles are rather delightful. Again the biscuit to chocolate ratio is spot on, they still have that crunch factor that makes them biscuity and the quality is good. I couldn’t detect any cream, I am not sure how that’s incorporated in the nibbles but the smell of sweet caramel was instant upon opening, and evident in tasting. These are far nicer than the biscuit version but if anything these nibbles were incredibly sweet and I cannot see people being able to eat many before they are overcome with sweetness and toothache. This isn’t the first time McVities have added a twist on the classic digestive, with digestives twists previously including dark chocolate, mini digestive nibbles, and the much-loved caramel digestives!

When you have frosted all of your little cakes, decorate however you like with some McVitie’s Chocolate Digestives or McVitie’s Chocolate Digestive Nibbles. I used a few biscuit crumbs as well as the Nibbles – I much prefer the higher chocolate to biscuit ratio! United Biscuits – which was acquired by Yildiz Holding in 2014 – said the Digestive Nibbles were the first innovation of its kind for the UK biscuit category, describing them as “ perfect” for sharing at home in the evening with friends and family. Sarah Heynen, marketing director of Sweet Biscuits at UB, said: “The launch of McVitie’s Digestives Nibbles is a significant moment for UB and the category, set to break new ground in sweet biscuits. This is an exciting proposition for the market, targeting a new evening sharing treat occasion for biscuits.” If you don’t have these where you are, look for any chocolate-covered biscuit pieces.Or you can use crushed biscuits of course.

We believe it’s important to do a few things well,” explained Heynen. “Our strategy on McVitie’s is unashamedly the same year on year. It’s about adding a fresh twist to make sure that what we’re doing feels exciting and new.” After melting chocolate, butter and golden syrup in a pan, fold in your digestive nibbles (or crushed biscuits) and marshmallows and then pour into a pan to set. Well, you’ll have to wait a couple of hours for it to set in the fridge but if you factor that time in and make a batch earlier in the day, you can be enjoying a chunk or two later on.

McVitie’s have released some new pouches of biscuity goodies and given they have my name on them I couldn’t not try them!! Enter McVitie’s Digestives Nibbles. They come in 4 varieties, Milk Chocolate, Caramel, Dark chocolate and Double Chocolate and are chocolatey biscuit forms of their ever popular Digestives, just bitesize. McVitie’s aim is for these to bethe new evening sharing treatbut to me biscuits are there for dunking or accompanying your tea and coffee, not so much an evening munchy treat, but by all means I am welcome to change. Using a free-standing mixer, electric whisk, or just a wooden spoon, mix the ingredients together until evenly combined. The launch is a significant moment for UB and the category, set to break new ground in sweet biscuits,” said Sarah Heynen, marketing director of sweet biscuits at UB. For cost savings, you can change your plan at any time online in the “Settings & Account” section. If you’d like to retain your premium access and save 20%, you can opt to pay annually at the end of the trial. If you prefer you can melt the ingredients together in a microwave instead of in a pan. Put the chocolate, butter and golden syrup in a microwave-safe bowl, heat for 30 seconds on high/full power, then stir well. Heat again for 30 seconds then stir again. If needed, repeat again and stir until smooth.

If you do nothing, you will be auto-enrolled in our premium digital monthly subscription plan and retain complete access for 65 € per month. Try not to put the marshmallows into the hot chocolate mixture if it is really hot, as they might melt. If your chocolate seems really hot allow it to cool slightly first.

The launch is a significant moment for UB and the category, set to break new ground in sweet biscuits,” said Sarah Heynen, marketing director at United Biscuits. “ This is an exciting proposition for the market, targeting a new evening sharing treat occasion for biscuits.” Make sure you melt the chocolate, butter and golden syrup together. If you add a cold ingredient into warm chocolate it will seize. Seized chocolate goes grainy and bitty and is no longer smooth and shiny. Heynen said the app showed that digital was no longer an afterthought when planning the brand’s marketing. Some 15% of the campaign’s outlay will go into digital initiatives, up from 5% in 2014, with more going on YouTube pre-roll, as well as partnering with Buzzfeed. If you know us, you know that we LOVE trying new biscuits from around the world – but we also love when a new biscuit emerges in the UK, and these new digestives are just the thing!Today I’m turning this fact on its head, and after experiencing just how delicious a Chocolate Digestive inspired recipe (like these McVitie’s Chocolate Digestive Cupcakes) can be, I’ll probably be doing it again very soon! These McVitie’s Chocolate Digestive Cupcakes are so simple but so perfect. Take an extra 2-3 minutes to thoroughly beat the frosting until paler and fluffier. You may need to add a little milk to help loosen it. This makes the frosting so much more delicious! Change the plan you will roll onto at any time during your trial by visiting the “Settings & Account” section. What happens at the end of my trial? You must have seen McVities Digestive Nibbles in the shops. They are Digestive biscuit balls covered in chocolate.
