The Halti is a recently modern addition to the standard pieces of canine kit such as the collar, lead and harness, and while it can be very useful for certain dogs and provides several advantages over other restraint methods, it is also still very widely misunderstood. The chances are that if you are not sure what a Halti is, you have nevertheless spotted a dog out on a walk wearing one, but you may have mistaken it for a muzzle, or simply not realised what it is or how it works. Ultimately, the least cruel way to stop your dog from pulling is to use positive reinforcement training to teach them to heel.

Traditional no-pull dog harnesses look similar to a regular walking harnesses. They usually have multiple attachment points, including one on the dogs' chest. That said, the chest padding alone most certainly has an affect on how the dog responds when walking – just the tiniest tug of the leash will invariably have it walking to heel. It works. It does what it is designed to do. You will be able to achieve more pleasant dog walks as a result. It's that simple. If your dog is absolutely insistent on pulling, you’ll know how much of a pain and hassle something as simple as an ordinary dog walk can become. Many people report that their dogs don’t seem as happy when wearing a Halti. Their tails and ears may droop, they hold their heads lower, and don’t seem as excited on walks. Because the Halti passes over the muzzle of the dog, they are often thought of as being a type of muzzle, to keep the mouth closed at all times and restrict the movement of the mouth. However, the Halti should not be thought of as a muzzle, and this is not its main purpose when working with your dog. What does the Halti do? If the Halti does not stop your dog from pulling, they may experience high levels of discomfort – even if the product is only used on walks. How are Haltis Different to Muzzles?
